Help determining Build date of my 70 barracuda
« on: August 17, 2007 - 07:32:12 AM »
Is there any way to determine the build date if a  1970 barracuda by the VIN number?  Even an approximation from people with VIN numbers close to  -------247352 would be a great help.
Thanks,
Shane

I'm in the same boat. The best I can help with is this VIN "BS23H0B236527" had a door sticker with 11 - 1970 on it. Good luck and if you find a source for your info please let me know.

Probably somebody that knows the sequence numbers of your VIN could tell you when it was made.

FJ5 Faker, I would say between February 15 to 30th of February 1970. I did compare your VIN with the ones in the Registry.

Jaybe, there must be an error in the one you posted (BS23H0B...) is a 1970 Cuda. The build date 11-70 is for a 1971 model.
Let me know your car's VIN, I can check for you. PM me, if you do not want to post your VIN in full or xx the last two digits.

BS23....

You're right, I double checked and the VIN I posted should have been "01 - 1970". My car is BH27G0B280831, I have a hunch that it's "04 - 1970". What I'd really like to narrow down is build date for possibly getting a fender tag made by those datatag people.

JayBee, it could be around 10th to 15th of March 1970. But no guarantee so far. I am working on the registry at the moment, it will take a few more weeks.
Please email me in around 8 weeks, I should be able to give you a closer date.

Or maybe Barry can help you right now ? Barry, do you have a date for JayBee ? Maybe you have a VIN closer to JayBee's than I do. Thanks.

Many thanks to Daniel Banker, but just out of curiosity, how do you know something as specific as that?  Do you have a car very close to that VIN?  It is amazing what invaluable info is flying around here.
Thanks,
Shane

The date on the tags and broadcast sheets is the SPD. (scheduled production date) There is no way to know if any given car was actually built on it's SPD. For 1970 Hamtramck built cars, the actual build date seems to be within three weeks before or arfter the SPD. Pretty wide window....

Some cars were built early for "special" reasons as well, so the only way to know the SPD is top have original paperwork or the original fender tag. Sometimes the Mylar door stickers and the SPD are even for different months.

Personally, I do not and will not give out SPDs to anyone with no documentaion. Most people that typically want that information to have a fake tags made and I will not go there.

Your car was built in March, 1970

I don't have any knowledge of cars built before and after yours to pinpoint the specific day though.
