First 2 mile drive in my barracuda
« on: August 17, 2007 - 10:49:57 PM »
I finally ventured out the shop doors with my car today. It's not done yet, I still need to mount the hood and install a rear bumper and the chrome tips. But man it sure felt good to try it out on concrete. It hasn't been drove since 1975. I had to tie down the battery, and it's only got 323 sure grip, but when the outboard carbs kicked in around 1800 rpms it went crazy in first. So I tried second and when the carbs kicked in, it broke loose again. Pulls hard in 4th. I called a speed shop today and got a quote of 150 bucks to narrow a dana for me to install.  I am going to enjoy cruising in this car. Even the standard steering was simple to turn. I am not comfortable with the 6 way seat and a big steering wheel tho. Something is gonna be changed.  My tach seems really lazy. But it worked.  So I have a total of 2.5 miles on it now and a grand total of 42,900 miles since new. It's fun bringing an old classic back to life.

Man Al,
That is awesome.  :2thumbs: I know that must have been fun, especially after all those years!! You'll have to post some more pics. It didn't look too bad in the previous post on the car!! That's some low miles too!! Enjoy it!! You deserve a break!! Your fast paced life makes me dizzy just reding about it!! I am hitting a big car show tomorrow. About 350-400 cars. Should be fun!! :jumping:

I took some shots in my front yard after the cruise. I will resize them and post some. It was exciting. I just put the front bumper and road lamps on.  Stephans performance only had the front bumper and I got his last one. No back bumpers in stock for a week or so.  He is going to deliver my shaker hood on his way back from AMD :2thumbs:  Now I will have 3 hoods and all purple. I am planning on buying an AAR hood too. So I can keep changing up on them.  Thanks for the comps, it gets tuff out here by myself working alone and the atta boy feels good for the character.

Alan, Glad to hear you got to take your first real ride. I can relate to the big steering wheel issue so I put a tuff wheel in my 70 Cuda to take care of that problem. The different hood change is a neat idea and you will have people wondering how many cars you have.

Congrats Moparal.
I know that feeling. Took my Fastback-67 to the Swedish DMW ,for inspection, this week after been working on it for 20 years.
Have only been driving it out on my local street earlier.
Is for sure a special feeling.
Good luck with the rest of the work, and please share some pic with us when you got the time.

That's soo cool.  I tried to get my wife to pull my Challenger down Woodward on the rotisserie, but she wasn't having it.

Awesome Cuda, Moparal
I just love a plum crazy Cuda.
May be because we had one in our town when I was growing up.
