The sheet metal is scary thin,i compared it to my super bee and i cant even get a panel to move like my Magnum. What do y'all think?.Would they last 40 years and hold up better than the 60's and 70's?

I am not sure the guage of the metal is as important as the prep and coating on the metal when it comes to the speed of the rusting process.   :dunno:   I will say that if both panels rust at the same rate, obviously the thinner of the two will rust through sooner.       :cooldancing:

Funny you should bring this up. A buddy of mine bought a Sprinter a while back and the body started rusting two months after he got it.  He's been fighting with them ever since.

They design them differently now and because of that they are protected in the usual rust areas. But they'll still rust out. My 67 Vette doesn't have a drop of rust on the body  :naughty:  Now my 71 Cuda is a whole different story... a lot of wire wheel work and rust inhibitor.

Newer metals are better than older ones, HSS, HSA and others used in different area of the body I don't think there were any high strength steels used in our cars. Also the paint/anti rust products used at the new factories are far superior to what was used in the old days. Also depends on where you live. Michigan? or somewhere that they don't use salt and sand on the roads in the winter? Working out dents and collision damage is a whole different animal though.

I hate it but most challengers in the north didn't last 10 years.  The rust was very bad.  The new metal is engineered to prevent rust.  American car makers learned a lot in 30 years
