Got my first insultingly low offer the other day.
« on: August 19, 2007 - 05:42:27 PM »
My roommate had one of his friends over the other day, and this guy started to ask him if his "neighbor" (didn't know that the car was mine, apparently) would be willing to sell that old Barracuda sitting out front.  I told him it was mine, and that it wasn't for sale.  So he decides to make an offer.  How much does he offer, you ask?  He offered me $500 cash.  Yes.  A measly $500 dollars.  Now, my car may not be in the best of shape right now, but come on!  There are PARTS on that car worth $500.  Hell, I just spent $500 on an 8 3/4 suregrip for it, and expects me to sell him the entire car for $500?  I've had a few lowball offers before, but nothing quite this extreme.  I wanted to kick him out of my house.

Don't be insulted.   :grinno:   Just realize you were talking to a person that doesn't have a clue about these cars.  I guess he thought it was just another old car.  You should have taken the opportunity to educate him on these old Mopars....    :ylsuper:    :2thumbs:    :cooldancing:

He was about 25 or so, and I doubt he didn't know what it was worth.  He was just hoping I didn't know what it was worth.

I've had this happen a couple of times.  I think mine have been flippers.  One guy told me I'd better take him up on it before I had to pay him to tow it away.

Now that I have been driving mine alot this summer finally I get asked all the time if it is for sale. I used to just say no and walk away. Now instead when they ask I say make an offer just to see what they say. Almost always get some stupidly low offers -I quess they are hoping that I don't know what I got or that I'm an idiot or something.   :dupe:

I would just say "I think you are a little out of touch with the market these days".  It's a nicer way of telling them they aren't very knowledgeable about Mopars.  If they are in fact knowledgeable but like to low ball people if they think they can get a deal then they probably already have thick skin.
