Keisler 5 speed It's Done
« on: August 19, 2007 - 08:01:07 PM »
We have a 1971 Challenger with an automatic, and we went to the Keisler 5 speed WOW!! :burnout:
It too an afternoon to get it in, with no real problems, everything fit very well, but we had to wait for the driveshaft before we could get it on the ground.
The car has a different personality, she goes, when shes got gas, but that is another story for a later date!!
Gene at Keisler was very good to deal with, friendly and helpful.  :clapping:
We followed the directions to a "T" and it went great! The only real hang up was bleeding the hyd throw out bearing, that took about 2 1/2 hours, but it did the trick.
I'd do it again in a heart beat!!!

How hard was it to install the 4spd hump? thats the part that would worry me, cutting up a nice solid floor...lol. Do they supply a template or anything?

Yes they supply the template, but I didn't cut the big hole in the floor that the template required.
I only cut what was needed to get the tranny to fit properly, which was on the left drivers side of the floor.
I cut enough to get the shifter and the left side of the tranny up, the rest of the tranny fits in the tunnel.
As far as the 4 speed floor, it installs really easy, you can weld or rivit it in. I tack welded mine in and then I seam sealed it.

Wow!  Looks very nice.  I bet its a blast to drive.   :burnout:  I still need to hook up with you guys this summer if possible.  Have you guys gone to N. St. Paul yet this year?  I went about 3 weeks ago.  Shoot me a PM if you guys want to do something.  If this rain quits, its supposed to rain all week!   :pullinghair:

Good stuff mate. I'll be getting the conversion kit completed for me on my next build. I can't wait, I've never driven a pistol grip manual before. I'm planing on fainting the first time I go through the gears with the Hemi.

Glad to here you're happy with the trans, Gene and the hoe deal, thanks for the pics.

It seems that you can not have to put the whole hump in due to not having shift rods in there. How will you keep the extra dirt and water out of the new pocket that will be between the old floor and the new hump?
