My Rallye Gauge Restification
« on: August 20, 2007 - 09:44:38 PM »
I have never liked the woodgrain in the interior of my 74 Cuda, so I am working to romove it.

Here are some pics of my redone rallye gauge face plate. The finish is not perfect, but I love the look of it.  :ylsuper:

I am still working on redoing the plastic housing and the centre console

Looking great.. Didn't think I would like straight black, but with the stainless accent and crisp lettering, it's nice....

Sure, I basically just sanded down the woodgrain and primed, sanded again and painted with a satin balck spray bomb.

The shiny parts, i was going for a spun/brushed aluminum finish.  I sanded those section with a red scuff pad, being sure to go in one direction for a uniform look.  It took a little bit of work to get the brown paint off from around the guages, but well worth it I think.

Any other questions, just let me know.

Yeah I was not sure I woudl like the balck either, and figured I could repaint it if I did not, but I love it.  I wish I had the money to resoter the gauge faces or the patience to put the stickers on them,  but they seem to look ok.

what are you doing about the console & door panel woodgrain inserts.

The consloe I am going to paint black.  The chrome on mine is crappy, so I am still working on how to get the same look around the edge.  I may have to live with all black for now.  No wood grain on the doors on a 74 Cuda, so no worries there.

I will post pics as I slowly move along!

Shlt, I quit like the look at that, never thought of doing it and am now very tempted to do the same. Looks stock, well, not stock but to the untrained eye something that could have definitely come from the factory. Can you please post photos in this thread once you have it in the car. If you could, 2 or 3 different angles too.

Nice work.

Thanks.
I will post pics when I get it installed, but it may be some time before I do, I do not get a lot of time to work on the car, and still have a few things to do before the gauges go in.

No worries mate, when ever you get to it and have the chance to post some photos I know I speak for others when I say I'd like to see them installed to see the overall effect and look to the cars interior, again, great work.

CUDA JAS,

I like the look.   Did you test these gauges though? I think your gas gauge, and possibly your temp. gauge are out to lunch.
