Looking for a different hood
« on: August 20, 2007 - 10:02:12 PM »
Since I put in my new engine with the Indy intake and dominator carb, it is very tight for hood clearance. I currently dont even have a air cleaner on the engine. I am looking for a different hood but want to keep the look somewhat stock. I like the AAR hoods but am not sure if there is enuf clearance. Does anyone know of a company that makes the AAR style hood but in a taller version? Or any other suggestions are welcome. :clueless:

The AAR hood should net you 2-3 more inches of space. No one offers a taller version of the AAR style. You would have to section and stretch if yourself, or pay some bucks for the manufacturer to do it. That actually may be possible since they typically build to order on fiberglass parts.

Aiiieehh!! They make some dang scary parts. I had a bumper from them that was the biggest turd a$$ piece of dog squeezin I've ever seen. Thin gel coat, twisted part, visiable parting lines, untrimmed edges. I know 'glass requires some finishng, but theri stuff was like a jr high shop project gone bad.

I'd look into that hood by MCR. It's a custom carbon AAR lookn' thing.  About 2 inches taller in the scoop. Pricey though.

are your edelbrocks max wedge ported or do you have the dual plane indy???

max height is 13.25 to top of T/A hood 440 based block.....but I have the 2" 4500 to 4150 adapter.....either way 13.25 max! and i run a aircleaner also... need 14.00 for indy/indy clearance with aircleaner...

They might not have it listed -you may need to inquire about it.
