    The good news is: Looks like the demons are gone! I redid the entire harness for engine and tranny (making sure of no bare wires, soldered instead of crimoed wires, got continuity of each wire I worked on) I replaced new balast resistor and ecu harness and now we have spark. Confirmrd that dist was not 180 out and tried to fire it.

    Now the bad news: On 4 seperate occasions the carb burped back and a small fire brewed until I smothered it.
    I was told it was the timing, but I twisted the dist all the way from left to right, and had same results.

    Another buddy told me I might have avalve sticking open and that could be the reason for the camp fire. Sound right? He told me that having the engine in the garage for 5-6 years can create all types of problems (before you ask I spun motor on occasion to no seize rings).

    He suggestion is to take cvrs off and confirm valve is not stuck and try again. If it is a tender touch with a dead blow or similar to jar it loose

    I have had a weak spark cause this. Yes, it scares the h@ll out of you seeing the carb on fire!!  :scared:

    With your key in the "on" position, you should have around 9 volts on the "+" side of your coil.

    Weak spark seems unlikely.  I agree with the timing issue or perhaps firing order incorrect.  I had a blonde moment once and installed my wires on my BB using SB firing sequence (CW vs CCW)!  There were backfires and small carb fires.  :scared: I felt pretty dumb. I can't remember all the details on your testing. Did you swap carbs and see if anything changed?

    I think order is good but will obviously check it
    Carb is a brand new 850 Holley out of the box, nothing else to swap with.
    I fell pretty dumb with this whole install so I know how you felt
    Will check timing again

    Make sure #s 5 and 7 are wired properly. (check whole firing order...) and dont sweat the minor fire. It's excessive fuel that puddles when things arent quite right.

    Why 5 and 7 because they are on same side of block and next to each other in order?
