Okay I 've been waiting for weeks to get my diff rebuilt and my new axles to arrive. I slap pick up the 8 3/4diff and slap it in and take a drive shaft length measurement and run to the drive shaft shop to get a new one made. I pick up the new driveshaft later that day and come home to install the seals and axles thinking I'm going to get this thing on the road again this weekend. The axles bottom out and the bearing won't even touch the bore. The axles are 2 inches too long! i take out the tape and the axles are 29 3/4" (30 " nominal) which is supposed to be right for the Cuda. I measure the old ones and they are 27 3/4"! WTF -the old ones are A body length axles. There is not much spline on them so it looks like someone may have swapped in an A body axle housing or narrowed the stock housing. It doesn't look narrowed. I'll have to run out to the garage and take a bunch of measurements. Can I just cut the axles down with a cut-off wheel on a grinder or do they have to be machined down?
