Sometimes it doesn't pay to be cheap!

I was under my car last week fighting my transmission leak and noticed the transmission mount bushing was shot.  So I looked at Mancini and see they have a bushing only kit for $12.  But they also have a new bracket and bushing kit for $25.

Being the cheapskate that I am, I think, it can't be that hard to remove my old bushing.  Heck, the thing was so bad it looked like it would fall out.

Well, 2-3hrs later, cutting, grinding and swearing, I got it replaced!   

So anyone thinking about replacing your tranny mount, pay the extra and get the new bracket.

Words of experience  I too went your "save a buck" way last year. I ended up burning it out of the old bracket,  but it was fun to just keep spraying it with carb and chole cleaner. Then I blasted the chared old bracket and painted her up nice and pretty. It really didn't get that hot to hurt the bracket, but it sure made a mess in the lawn.

i didnt even try that when i swapped my mount  i'm cheap, but i wasnt about to skimp on that job

I did the the exact same thing....Spray..FLAME!  Spray..FLAME!   SWEEEET!!!

Sounds like you spent even more time than I did.  My son joked "You saved $12, and we spent 3hrs, $4/hr not even mimnimum wage!"  I thought about burning it, but ended up cutting out as much as possible, then grinding rest out with dremel.  "Hey dad look, I'm burning rubber"  as the smoke poured out!

Truthfully when I ordered the replacement I just wanted to make sure I had a good solid mount, then when I saw I had saved a little by going that route I figured that was even better. Honestly I never imagined getting the old bushing out was going to be that big of a deal, time and otherwise.  Next time however................

   Same exact thoughts here.  As far as the next time goes, it'll will be so long I'll have forgot.  Then my cheap ways will kick in, and the process will repeat!   

It's funny though, only a day later and the sense of accomplishment is already overtaking the frustration.

  Well my "next time" will be when I swap out the drive train on the Dart, so hopefully your "next time" also will be another lil project.
