My 540ci Hemi Build
« on: August 27, 2007 - 01:45:42 AM »

Just got some photos from Tim Banning from FHO (For Hemis Only) who is building my engine. Looks real good, can't wait! He's just been going through partial load break in procedures. The next step is to re-torque the heads, adjust the valves, and do some full pulls for their V.E. tables. Then he'll remove the single Dominator carb, and switch over to the EFI system. The engine will not be painted Hemi orange until they remove it from the dyno. I should have some dyno figures within the next 1-2 weeks, so I'll update on this thread. He said it sounds super sweet and that he'd have some videos of the pull with the engine. Not sure if I'll get them via email or on disc with the engine.

Wow! Now that is a nice looking engine!  :droolingbounce:  Where is it being built, in the states or over there? Can't wait to see the dyno results.   :2thumbs:

Thanks guys.  :2thumbs:

G-Man lol, thanks mate. Umm, to tell you the truth I have no idea. As far as I'm aware you can order a 528ci block in aluminium form but it would be easier and factual to call some engine builders or Keith Black Co and ask about their blocks yourself. I don't think you can get a 426, 472 in anything other than cast iron.

It sure looks the part, can't wait for the dyno figures and for it to be painted and assembled to look closer to a stock Hemi engine you would find in a #'s car. Will have stock cast black wrinkled covers, everything painted Hemi orange, Chrysler part coded radiator tubes, close to stock looking aluminium radiator painted black. It won't look "stock" but it will look very close to it, the main thing giving it away will be the EFI, though, they still look like 2 x 4bbls and with the Shaker bubble it will be hard to spot them under there.

Yup, Big Stuff-3 twin throttle bodies. I don't think you can, Tim uses a special custom base plate to fit/suit the EFI system, after that I can run factory shaker stuff. I don't think you can fit the oval chrome plate sorry to say. As for the radiator I'm not 100% sure yet what I'm using and like many parts have gone for what Tim knows is best and runs with the majority of his cars. He's the man so I trust him and use his experience over BS marketing gimmicks.

:lol2: no, no, it's the name of the company who makes the EFI we're using: "Big Stuff-3". ;) So, it will look like the one in the photo above your second to last post, looks like 2 x 4bbl carbs (8 chambers) if you will.

I think the Shaker is more for looks, well, that is what it was built for, to intimidate on the street. Not 100% sure if it adds anything. I think it would though as it would collect a lot more fresh air being outside the hood compared to that of an oval cleaner inside the car under the hood. You have vent doors you open on a Shaker hood so it keeps things clean as well as cool in both terms of the meaning.

For me it wasn't a performance factory as you're probably looking at a difference (if any) of around 4-7hp between the two. It was just looks for me, with the title of this thread getting hp won't be a problem and unlike most I don;t want to go for as much as possible with my engine, I know when enough is enough for a street car.

Looks like dual throttle bodies, like you said close to dual quads. Very nice! What is the bore of each throttle body? The motor looks good too NZ. I saw the Strange Dana picture too with the disc brakes. You're going to have a nicely set up Cuda... Total new school... I think I'll have to borrow my buddies P-51 to race you now though  :drunk:

Thanks for every ones kind words. Though you would like to see the engine breakdown of parts so I added them above. As you can see with 42# injectors it's not an aggressive engine. I asked for a basically stock 540ci, but, being a 540ci it was always going to make 580hp+. Should be a very lovely engine to drive on the street.
