With or without T-stat, my race car runs hot...!

In the top hose I got a piece of pipe, for the filler cap, and in that pipe there is a plate with a hole in , - BUT - I noticed that the hole in the pumphousing, is so very small, not much water can get out of there..???

Got a 340 and in the warmer months I run a 160' stat and runs approx. 165'.  And the colder months I run a 180' and its fine....I do run the factory shroud, 2 core radiator, aluminum fan.

I had the same problems mentioned above in my 340 (back in the day).  I lived in El Paso and it ran too hot with the thermostat and without the thermostat.  Then an old mechanic told me to take the middle part of the thermostat out.  The metal ring would restrict water flow enough for the coolant to do a good job of heat transfer, yet still allow the coolant to flow without any further restriction.  It worked very well for me, and that was with shroud and with A/C in the desert southwest.

Jsut my  :2cents:

I like the idea of adding a shroud.  And from all of the above replies, 192 degrees or so is in the ball park.
So here is my next question, where would i find a shroud at?
