Congrats 67Vette427 on getting your cuda finished.  The car looks so killer.  Nothing like a 71 black hemi!   :2thumbs:

:iagree:  and nice black cars too Triple... A couple of good looking Mopars! The Cuda does look abolutely great in black!

I worked on the throttle linkage today. I had to fabricate a base for the cable bracket since I'm not using the in-line Hemi manifold.

Sorry, been a little bz to be around but I've got the shaker to fit real well with the MP 4 barrel intake, the radiator is in, all the hoses. I just have to finish the exhaust and a couple other loose ends and then I'll take it out for some good pictures. It runs sweet. I just need to bleed the brakes one more time.

Man - beautiful car!!  :2thumbs: congrats on being so close to being done... must be a great feeling.

how much of a drop base air cleaner did it require for you to get clearance on the hood? Did it leave enough clearance on top of the carb for air flow? Looks like I am going to have to do the same thing...any suggestions?

I'm camping at the moment and thanks to your 'Cudas help, I've already pitched a tent.
Now to attend to the fire....

Evil Twin...sorry been bz but I used a 3" drop base and welded it to the shaker base. I run a 2"x14" K&N filter which works and fits good with the bubble. I've got the car out a couple times and it scares people with the rumble. Its fast and has lots of torque. Here's a shot of it today after I took her out for lunch.

Actually retired motor traffic officer, so I have the time to work on these myself and save a few bucks. Back in 1979 my moma told me to get rid of the cars I had and buy a house....so I sold a 70 Challenger R/T 440-6 shaker hood -4 speed-dana car and a '69 427 Vette convertible and bought a house. Investing in Calfornia real estate was the best suggestion she made to me other than to stop out running the cops... so I became one...lol...
Here's the last picture of me before I got smashed into by a low life on meth and alcohol.... There was a school group on tour that day. That poor bike was in pieces.... and me too but I made it back...the bike didn't

I decided on getting a recessed 14" air cleaner and cutting the shaker base to the diameter of the air cleaner base. Since the standard 440 4-bbl engine is much lower than the Hemi M-1 intake, the standard base was 3" too high.

You dont have any part numbers for the drop base by any chance do you? There are a few different dimensions and I am wondering what you ended up going with. Thanks in advance!

I picked it up at the local speed shop. It was the typical chevy big block/small block style the vettes use 1967-1970, 14" x 3".  All you have to do is make sure the base drops down around the carb and everything clears. Then use the standard 440 shaker base and outline the outter edge of the aftermarket base around the shaker base while keeping the carb bases of both centered. Then cut your hole. Make sure your cut is a little small because you can always trim it to fit. Once I had the hole cut I used my mig welder to spot weld 4 areas then adjusted the height from there. I ran the bubble a little high but the hood closes nice.  Here is one that Summit has :  http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2DG3000&N=700+4294925239+4294839057+4294756384+4294904151+115&autoview=sku
