Anyone run 4.30 gears

I wouldn't take this thing on the hiway for more than a mile or two, I'll say that. It will be screaming. How tall are your tires? If they are 30" or so, that might save you. If you have 26-28" tires, then driving beyond 45-50MPH will give you a migraine after 20 minutes.

All depends on the tire, like he said. Under 28" and freeway speeds get kind of loud quick. Over 28, it's really not much more than 4.10s and you can cruise at 60-65 pretty easy.

I've got 4.10s in my cuda and am running 225/60/15s on it and at 60 i'm at 3200 rpm.  4.30s would be too low in my honest opinion.

well my calculator says 3350 RPM's with 28" tires and 4.30's @ 65 MPH....

What rear gears do you have in there now? I'm just curious how drastic the 4:30's would be from what you already have.

I can see where you are good now, but it really depends on if you are wanting to do mostly runs down the strip, and around town in slow traffic type of driving, as opposed to doing mainly hiway driving. Probably 90% or more of my driving is hiway, so 3:23's save my ears, and I can get 13+MPG.

I went from 3.91's to 4.30's and no you don't want to go on the hi-way much. I do have 30 inch tall M/T Sportsman's on it now and it is getting a 518 overdrive tranny.

4.30 is a bit much if your crusin the hwy's. If its a 8 3/4 nothing wrong with having two center chunks. One with a 3.55 and the other with a 4.30, when you race the Cuda Guy. 20 minute change with air tools....

Whats your rpm through the traps compared to your engine's power curve?

well my calculator says 3350 RPM's with 28" tires and 4.30's @ 65 MPH....

Remember thats only with a 4 speed or if you have a super efficient torque converter, if not then it'll be higher (I'd guess 10-15% higher)

I used to run them on the street with a 440.  Lots of RPM's.  Lots of motor heat.  Lots of gas.  They were too much on the street for me.
