He is definitely going 80 down the pit lane like a fool.  I hope they did away with that pace rule after the accident.  It doesn't look like discs would have helped in this case as the wheels appear locked up in the vid

Maybe he practiced everything, but did he practice with a carload full of people? Add in all that weight and the braking distance would go up a bunch. Probably had the wonderful 10 inch drums all around like mine had, Bummer.

A flat hood with hood pins?  Very interesting.  Was that an option on normal production models?
My 71 convertible came with a flat hood and hood pins.

wow, never saw that before, thanks for posting it. What a shame that some lame driver destroyed what could have been a huge promotion for Dodge.

:wow: I met a couple of friends who owned convertibles to drive up to a show in Burlington Washington and we were joined by one of the pace cars that had a 340 in it.  It was all original and the person had never changed anything except the parts that normally would wear out in thirty years.  I was pretty surprised and enjoyed checking out his vehicle.   :working:

The pace car needs to keep up speed to a certain point in the pit lane in case the green is waved off.

Didn't know that. That removes a little of the blame.

Maybe he practiced everything, but did he practice with a carload full of people? Add in all that weight and the braking distance would go up a bunch. Probably had the wonderful 10 inch drums all around like mine had, Bummer.

The extra weight could have been a factor. Good point.

As a 340 package car it would have had heavy duty suspension and 11-inch drums at least.
