my overhead console is covered in vinyl. it is one piece of vinyl with no seams. the headliner is vinyl with four seams running from front to rear. has factory ink stamp of pentastar and numbers on back side of vinyl. was originally white vinyl but had gotten spray dyed black when still in car. all the edges are still white. i really should post pictures, but i am not too smart with computer.

fk5, does the vinyl on your overhead console have a "fold" in it up front before the lenses ? Mine does and it's visible in my photo. I would asume the fold is instead of a crease or wrinkle.

Hi guys, I know this thread is old but is there a reason why I can't view the pics in it that people posted? Is It my iPad or did they get wiped out due to age? Would be nice to see as I'm doing a headliner and need all the help I can get, from how it mounts in removal & installation tips, overhead console as well.... Please help, thanks.... They get deleted with age.  A lot of information is lost.

I guess you just did!  Now all we need is for anyine out there to re-post using something like photobucket.  I can give you  source for the cloth material. but that is about it. i ended up finding someone who made a batch of fiberglass panels.  it wasn't optimal, but at least i have a headliner now, where all i had before was pieces-parts.

I got mine from here (It was listed on page 2 of this thread), and it is the same weave as the original, but has an 1/8 inch foam backing.  Not a deal breaker by any means.

I do know from experience that it is easiest to get the headliner out through the windshield opening.

About to attempt the restoration and restoring of the headliner here. I have the original if you need a picture I'll be happy to post one later. The problem with the cardboard liner is that they sag. I've heard from a restorer that you can fiberglass the back to "pick it up again" and then install it and you should be good to go. My original headliner material is in good shape so I may just re-use it.

The real issue is that I've forgotten how to put it in again. There are galvanized brackets that fit in the car and they have teeth that hold the head liner up IIRC.

I'm a little scared of tackling it. The biggest issue is that if you have an SE headliner then you also have the rear window liner/cover that is foam back wood and foam.

We all know how the back windows on these cars held water and leaked and these are generally in as bad or worse shape than the SE headliner..

Over here in hackville, mine is coming apart so I will likely skim it with fiberglass to beef it up.

Pictures in a bit. Need to get started on it.
