Wish me luck guys!
« on: September 01, 2007 - 12:30:52 AM »
I'm headed out early tomorrow morning to meet up with the M&M Classics guys (green Cudas, orange/black Hemi, the poor model everyone rags on). I'm going to check out their operation and hopefully negotiate a price for a custom 71 Barracuda build.

Here is the car in question. Some pics of the shell on a rotisserie.

Now that I've got a garage and the funds to get started, it's time to commit. I'm excited to get the ball rolling. I've always liked old cars and I've been in love with Cudas and Challengers since the late 90s. I always told myself I'd wait until I could get a running driving car that I could build off of instead of trying to build my own from scratch and finding that I lose interest with the amount of work involved.

Basically the car is going to be a pretty standard 440-6 4 speed Dana car with the addition of A/C. Black, elastomer bumpers, painted grille, AAR style hood and spoiler (with hood blackout), gills, shaved door handles, shaved turn signals, LED tail lights and 18 and 20" Torq Thrust IIs. That should be a pretty adequate starter car, eh?

I'm going to clean out my digicam and charge it so I can get some more interesting pictures of the shell.

Wish me luck on the travels. I didn't realize when booking the flight that it was Memorial Day weekend. Gah!

-Phil

Here's a reasonable facsimile of what the car would look like, but, you know, finished and stuff. And without the chin spoiler.

Black, black black. Did I mention black?

Put the gilled fenders on it. That's what makes the 71 look mean.

WOW!  That is awesome!  I hope it works out for you!  Are you buying the car or are you paying them to resto it?  If that falls through there is a 71 cuda on craigslist with a 426 Hemi that come as a package deal.  Its a project as well.  Good luck!!!  Keep us posted!

Glad to hear it Phil. I know you've been thinking about this and weighing up your options so best of luck my-man. I'm sure Shawn will take good care of you. I've spoken to him a couple of times over the phone and he's a top bloke. You'd have to be, to casually dismiss the BS he received on some of the threads on here. Best of luck.

I'm most definitely doing gills.

Everything went well and they're really good guys. The shop looks great and that orange and black Hemi car sounds awesome.

I've signed on for a custom build and I'm starting to get excited. It'll likely take a few months to complete, however. I'll probably post a few pictures of my shell later tonight. They're going to keep me updated with new pictures of the work in progress so I will likely be posting those as time goes on.

Excitement!  :woohoo:

The day was a bit hectic since they had to deal with someone buying that T/A shell and having someone borrow a trailer while simultaneously talking numbers and showing me around. It was a bit of madness but it all turned out well.  :2thumbs:

I got 3 hours of sleep the night before, got up at 5:15am to get to the airport, landed in Kansas City at about 8:30am their time, went to the shop and met everyone, got to the airport at 5:30pm, walked directly onto the plane and took two flights back home to land the next morning at 12:40am. By the time I got home and went to bed I had spent 20 hours running around fueled by nothing but caffeine and one trip to Mc Donalds. :grinno:
