ANOTHER OLD STORY
« on: September 01, 2007 - 03:24:32 PM »
back about 94 or so, i used to go to the street races (back in those days it was real cars).
i was driving my 318 powerd a-100
there is a early 70s vette and a nissan pickup sitting at the line for probably 20 minutes.
well everyone starts to leave, i decide that i will ask if they are going to run before i leave. so i drive alongside the vette and roll down my window to ask if they are going to race.
before i can say one word the dude in the nissan starts running his mouth about my pos dodge and why it shouldnt even be at the races etc.. (remember this dude is driving a late 80s nissan pickup..wtf??)
so a verbal exchange ensues that results in me racing this nissan ... it wasnt even funny at about half track im at least 15 cars ahead of him so i let off ,right at the end he does the required rice burner fly by and rips into this parking lot, where a motorcyle cop is sitting watching the whole thing.
well the dude is watching me while he is pulling this badass manuever and almost hits the cop, while the cop is frantically trying to turn on his lights... :smilielol:
i was laughing so hard i had to just keep on driving and let him deal with the cop...
TOO MANY DAMN CARS!!!

Pretty ballsy racing with a 318.  I've been told that my 318 isn't really considered a muscle car, until it's got at least a big block in it.  I thought to myself, "hum....I haven't really pushed my car yet since I've only owned it a couple months and am doing some work on her, (goosed her only once so far, and had no trouble smoking the tires) but I'm pretty sure my 318 with my four-barrel carb is still MOPAR enough to give someone a run for their money.

In high school I had a plain-jane 1973 Barracuda with a 318. Pretty spunky car, but no "Hot-Rod". I worked at a print shop and one of my co-workers had a '70 Chivy pickup with a modified 350. He was constantly talking trash to me about the Barracuda and how he would blow me off the road, trying to get me to race him. Finally I'd had enough and told him at lunch one day, "Let's go!!". So we went to a secluded area that was often used for racing. The first run I took him by at least 5 car lengths. He made some excuse, so we ran again and I beat him worse. He hadn't had enough and wanted to try a run from a roll. So we ran from a 30 mph roll and it wasn't even funny how bad I walked away from his truck.  :22yikes: Of course the other guys from the job saw it and he had to face to music back at work. It was a most memorable "Kodak" moment!! A large crow pie for him!!  :smilielol: Don't underestimate a 318!!! :roflsmiley:

Great 318 stories. Just think if they had run across Goodies 318, they would of thought it was a big block and packin extra juice.

Dude.... Don't knock 318s....

My brother's smoked Grand Nationals in his 98 ram.... true story.... Mustangs are generally toast if they wanna line up nest to him. its hilarious. People always think the little 318 is such a wuss because its the little guy, don't judge the book by its cover.... they will surprise the holy crap out of you.

Great story though man! always love those.
oh....... too many cars. not enuff money... not enough time....

mine runs okay, wish i had spent some real money on it! my friend has a 318 in a 77 D100 van that runs 14.50 @ 87 or so. Tough to 1/4 since it has the aerodynamics of a barn!!

Not to mention that it probably weighs close to 5000 lbs!  14.5 is some pretty serious horsepower in a vehicle that heavy.  :burnout:

I used to have a 69 Dart with a 318 in it. I custom built twin turbos on it along with a fairly aggressive cam and ported high flowing heads I was running 9.3s 9.2s at the track when I lived in Las Vegas. A well built 318 can kick some serious ass.
