I am having one hell of a problem finding spark plug wires for my 340 Cuda. It is on the drivers side of the engine, the two plugs closest to the firewall. The header pipe is directly in front of the plugs. I need a 90 degree spark plug boot for these 2 plugs. All of the other 6 wires can be either straight or 90 degree.
I prefer 6 straight boots and (2) 90 degree boots. The MSD set i bought did not work. It did not contain enough brass inserts to crimp with because the 2 wires that need the header clearance needed to have both ends crimped on. To make a long and boring story short, i had to return the wires and use my original set. Back in the day you could buy seperate wires with the 90 degree boots, which is what i have now.
A guy at a local speed shop suggested that i go with a different distrubitor cap that is HEI or the chevy style. He said this cap would give me greater options in wire sets. Frankly, i totally gave up on the whole idea of replacing my 34 year old set of wires. I really need them but this is becoming a fricken major pain in the butt. Why can't i just buy 6 straight booted wires and two 90 degree booted wires without all the Drama?
I know someone out here has a 340 with headers and has the same clearance problems i have. What brand are you using? I would like a 8mm set that has all the bells and whistles of quality.
