That sounds like a good deal. I just bought a 340 trans set up out of a 73 cuda 340. It has a cast crank flywheel. Is your 340 crank cast or forged and what comp is it. Do the heads come with it?  I am straight up 59 north into Birmingham. But working in Ca. for 2 more weeks then have to drive home.   ALAN

Just have your flywheel neutrally balanced at a machine shop, then it wil be a forged crank flywheel

Yeah I'd have no problem doing that. I just think a 72 340 was a cast crank too, which is fine, but some 72's had forged cranks I believe.  It's a good deal and am interested in it either way.

Hey Al,
If you want to swing by, I'm off 10 about 5 miles. Closer to the Louisiana line, 15 miles or so, than the Bama line. Just call at anytime, (405)788-7445.
I would shoot ya a better deal if you picked it up.
This was my dad's project. He got out of cars and put more mone into land and tractors. He doesn't own an old car anymore, except for a 383 RR thats beat.
I am building a blown 408 and don't need it, but I need machine shop money.
The engine is disassembled but most everything is there but heads, ignition, timing chain, some bolts and stuff. I didn't get any heads from my dad but I do have some 71 360 heads I'll throw in.
Everything is basicly how I picked it up from dad. The crank has a tag from the machine shop that says 340 .010/.010. I don't know what year the crank is if it isn't the original. I doubt my dad would even remember, he's got CRS syndrome. I have it and I'm 27, I know he's got it bad.
To be on the safe side I would definately mic it (as always), and do ARP rod bolts.
Oh, I do believe pops said the compression was to be 8.5:1.
I am motivated to sell because I want to get my engine done before I go to the middle east for what I hope to be my last deployment in Feb. and I will be on an excercise almost all of Oct. so thats four months or so I'll have to get the 'cuda rollin. It's gonna be close.

I just need to get the engine throught the machine shop

The piston/rods are in the Kieth Black box the pistons came in. I believe the part # is on there. Can you tell what compression they are from the Part # usually?

The 72 340 had a forged crank early in the model year.  Later models used a cast crank.
I am one of the "lucky ones" with a cast 72 crank.  :swear:

Forged cranks can be identified by the 1/2 in.-wide forging flash. Cast cranks can be identified by the 1/4 in.-wide casting flash.

Good deal on the motor! But shipping to Canada would cost too much :stomp:

Thats not a 71 340 intake on the floor is it? I am not saying a 71 engine could not possibly have a 70 intake assembly but that is not a thermoquad intake I see there.
