Six Pack/Tri Power - All the same ???
« on: September 05, 2007 - 09:14:23 PM »
Ran across this and was wondering if anybody has heard any good/bad or whatever. I know that it appears as if they are for Hot Rods, but isn't a six pack basically 3 two barrels anyway ??? Will something like this work on my 440 Magnum ???

I think tri power is the chebby version of a six-pack. Yes, a six pack is 3 two barrels. If you'r looking for a mopar six pack setup, try this.http://promaxcarbs.bizland.com/Sixhome.chtml

MOst Chevy tri powers use stromburg (pardon my spelling if incorrect) 97 carbs, I would stick with the Holleys or the new demon 6 shooter setup.

I was also checking out Indy Heads, they just released a six pack setup. What is drwing me towards the afforementioned is the bling factor - I like the bling.

Tri-Power was specifically Pontiac, which they dropped onto a 10:1 compression 347 rocket ship.  Unlike the single six pack air cleaner, the tri power setup had 3 small air cleaners mounted inside a compartment that sealed against the hood.  Don't know what flows better, but when those air cleaners are replaced by stacks, that's a good looking setup.

The tri power was also offered on the chevy 348 and 409. Corvette had a 3 2 setup but those were holleys and I don't know what they called it then.

Lets not get too hung up on the name Tri-Power here. I guess that you really have to watch the terminology that you use here.

My primary goal is to have a six pack setup, but with bling. The standard six pack setup on promax is just too bland for me. I know a lot of people around here are traditionalists and the only way that you can have a six pack is to have the three  holleys, the as cast manifold and the big orange manifold. If my car wasn't a clone than I too would be playing it safe and doing exactly what the factory did. To my advantage though it isn't and I would prefer to have something nicer looking.

If you want the "bling" go with the demon six shooter.

Exactly what I was thinking. I am also going to call Indy heads to see if what they are offering and what Barry Grant offers. If there is no difference then I would probably rather deal with Indy even if they are only repackaging. I don't hear a lot of good things about customer service at Baryy Grant's.

You could convert it to fuel injection and run 3 2bbl throttle bodies, that would fit maybe - although this is a stock manifold, you get the idea.....
