Help me choose a set of tires for my 70' Cuda please...
« on: September 06, 2007 - 11:09:16 PM »
Here is what my car will look like when done in relation to helping pick tire size.  I'm looking for help picking the right size and brand of tires for it.  I hope to get it all wrapped up by the end of Sept and have it road ready.   :working:

70' Cuda 440-6 pack
5 speed Keisler (tremec) TKO-600 .62 overdrive tranny
3.91 rear end ratio - 8 3/4 sure grip
Factory 15x8" rally steel wheels
Factory suspension, no lift of any type

I want to maintain somewhat of a stock appearance of the car but I also like a somewhat agressive looking car as well.  I plan to drive the car around to car shows in the state up to 3 hours away and local cruise in's weekly.

Thanks for your help in advance.  Need help with both tire size but also brands.   :feedback:

If your going with the steel wheels (Hub Caps) 15x8 all the way around and want to stay some what stock, I would go 245-60-15 all the way around.  I would either go with the BF Goodrich Radial TA or the Good Year GT II.   :2cents:

The 15" wheels limit your choices to only a few suppliers that are easily available; Goodyear Eagle GT2, BFG T/A, Cooper Cobra, Mickey Thompson S/R, Dean Stinger, and a few other off brands.

Size wise, 275/60 rear, 235/60 front. Rears are 28" tall, fronts are 26". this will give you a nice rake, fill up the wheels nicely and the sizes are easily available.

Don't forget the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 - they look nice and handle well, too.

I went from 235/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear  BFG T/As to the same size Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s, and found that IMHO the Firestones gave me much better traction - both wet and dry.  I had always been a fan of the good old Radial TA, but I got a great deal on the Firestones.  Besides handling better, I found that it took alot more to break the Firestones loose.

I like the look of the stock wheels, but performance tires for 15 inch wheels are pretty limited.
For 15 inch wheels I would go with 235/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s.

I think 275/60 is to big for a stock look..   :2cents:

I agree somewhat, but I KNOW a 440-6 is too big for 245s.    :burnout:

If my memory serves me, the 245/60/15's are approx the same size as the factory G60-15's.  They are quite meaty for a front tire anyway.(I run these on the front and 275/60/15 rear)

Firestone doesn't make an Indy 500 in 245/60  - they jump from 235/60 to 255/60, which is what I have.  This seems more stock, especially stock T/A.

15x7 Magnums all around...255 is the biggest I'd go on a 15x7, though.

275's bulge quite a bit on a 8" rim.  IMO you need at least 9" rim.

Nah, 8" is fine. See below.

I guess the original poster needs to clarify because he said somewhat stock looking, but somewhat aggressive.

I'd agree with others, 245/60 all around would be stock looking, 235/60 and 275/60 would be aggressive looking.
