Wheels on the cheap...Mercury Marquis wheels
« on: September 07, 2007 - 02:41:56 PM »
Just a weird thought.  I've been eying these wheels for a while.  A friend of mine, who is a Ford guy ( I forgave him for that...) who like some Mopars saw a Cuda with these wheels and he couldn't place where they were from.  I think he said they fit without mods, I'm not sure of that.  I'm wondering about the hole for the hub.   :dunno:

They are 4.5" bolt pattern, 16"x7" aluminum alloy.  I might look into a set if I can find a set cheap.  They can be found on the likes of a 2000 Mercury Marquis/ Crown Vic.  They look nice plus will help the handling some...

Anyone try this yet?  Do they fit around the Mopar hub?

on most ford RWD vehicle wheels, the register opening is too small, but you could always open them up....
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Thanks for the info!  Might still keep this in mind if the price is right!

I guess this is the same issue with the Bullitt style wheels as well.  Oh well.....

I found that out the hard way. The spare I HAD would fit the rear just fine because they are drum brakes. It wouldn't fit on the front, because of disc brakes. Dare you ask which of my tires went flat when I figured this out?   :stomp:

It should fit the rear axles, the front hubs probably need to be turned. Atleast in my case with my mustang wheels. I'm bringing a machine shop a drum and rotors and asking they be milled to the diameter of the axle opening in the drum

I think they might end up looking too small unless you put truck tires on there  :dunno:

Been there done that.

Had to jack the car up in the middle and do a double swap on the side of I- 95.  Scary.

If they are original Ford wheels, then yes, you will have hub register sizing issues. You can either mill the hub on the rotor and need to do this for any future rotor changes, or mill the wheel so it fits any mopar in the future.  FWIW, the wheels on my Challenger  to the left are 15x8s off an Explorer I found in the salvage yard. However, since they fit right on and are pretty wide, I think they were aftermarket wheels. But hey, how can you argue with $60 for a complete set.

My '71 Challenger came to me with a set of Mercury Cougar mag wheels, but I've got drums all around.  No problems.

I've heard that late model Jeep wheels will fit also, but I've never tried.
