Pro-touring 70 R/T
« on: September 07, 2007 - 11:20:29 PM »
I have kicked around many ideas for this car, but never did anything about it. So i came up with a plan. Here is what i am starting with. I have done one half A$$ restro on this car years ago. I want to do it right this time. I am getting it ready for the media blaster, then we will see what she looks like from there.

New HEMI 5.7 or bigger, with a 5 speed

XV level II everything

Plum Crazy Purple paint, no stripes, or vinyl top

Nice 18 in wheels

Custom Int.

I want this to be a driver ! ! Please dont go off on its a U code bla bla bla, No macthing #s, build sheet, or fender tag. So it dont matter.  I will buy a perfect T/A later on in life with all the right stuff.

Go for it. Its your car is someone dosen't like it they should buy it of you. Post pics as you go. I went with 17" on mine just so I had some side wall for cushon and some nice shocks so it doesn't ride like a hay wagon. I love the 5.7 hemi swaps.

That was my problem, OOO...dont do that to a U code car. Then they want it for a few grand.

Progress Report

I got most of the rear quarters cut off today, i want to get it blasted before winter hits. I would like to have body work repaired, and primed up by Jan08. I got lucky, and found all the donor body parts i need.

You don't really want that rim-blow steering wheel, do you?   :naughty:

Hey Mike, I am putting Nellie Bell on a diet. Fiberglass dash, with a few gauges. No bells, no whistles, no radio. I am going to shave some weight off her fat a$$, and yes that includes getting a Sparco steering wheel, and seats.

I could not believe how heavy the dash, and A/C box was.

I would do a pro-touring T/A clone.

XV's orange bomber sort-of is one, but not really.

XV stuff is super nice, but also super $$$.  Have fun and I hope you have $100k to burn! :poopoke:

I am getting a divorce, no kids, so when the house sells, i get half. Besides that, just not having a wife in general, i am going to be doing a lot better w/ money real soon.

$7,495.00 XV Front
$3,395.00 XV Rear
$2,895.00 XV Front Brake set up
Having the best looking car ever made not handle like $hit...Priceless

I will shop smart, and get a cheap low mileage 5.7, and a well priced 5 speed. I am not sure were you got 100k. But if it takes a 100k, so be it. I will buy a real T/A someday, i dont need a clone. Trust me dude, i have pissed enough money away to fix this car ten times over, i just never did.

Sounds very similar to my 70/72 R/T/A project. Can't wait to see the end result! I'm trying to get mine down to about 3000lbs when finished.

Where are you getting the fiberglass dash from? I found a Barracuda dash in fiberglass for about $250 (don't have the link at work though). I also saw a carbon fiber version of an E-body dash somewhere but I can't find that link anymore.

I am not sure what you mean? Besides family, and friends dying. This is by far the worst thing to ever happen to me.

I would like to just buy a carbon fiber dash kinda like Dean Skuza's dash, but its not going to happen. I will just end up making one myself, i will use my old dash as a template, and make it look stock at first glance. I am willing to bet it takes over 100 lbs off the front of the car.

(My Inspiration)  This is the first Challenger that i have ever seen that combined import tuner/muscle car together. Dean Skuza did a great job with it.

That thing looks schweeet!

BTW, I'm home now so here's the link to the fiberglass dash I mentioned: http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/site.htm
I can't seem to link directly to it so just click on the Catalog button on the left then under the Mopar area click on the 70-74 Barracuda link of the main parts index. It'll be near the bottom of that page. It's listed as selling for $259 and weighing only 4 pounds! :22yikes: :woo: :2thumbs:
