Mopar Performance Electronic Distributor Vacuum Advance Adjustment

 :dunno:

any help? Ive never adjusted this. which direction for what result?

when im at cruise speed the engine sort of sputters a little. i assume this is b/c of the timing at that point but i suppose it could be something else? maybe a condition of hotter cams?

im @ total time (35) running a 750 edelbrock.

If you are fine when you give it gas, then feel a miss when you level off in speed, then you are getting too much advance. Take the rubber hose off the vacuum advance pod. You can use a small Allen head key to adjust the advance inside the pod. Counter-clock-wise to retard it. I had to go 1 full rotation, but you can play with it.

I too made a change in distributor and had the same effect -

Best thing I did no kidding, I run no vacuum advance.

Advice given to me here from the all knowing Chryco - I've never had to go back.

I believe he has a permanent post on this including what the best timing is.

I was once not using the vacuum advance since it gave me trouble. I had 12.2 MPG on the hiway, but I recently went up to 13.3 when I finally got off my lazy butt and adjusted that setting right inside the pod. This is at 70-75MPH with a built 440, so I am incredibly happy.  :jumping:  :jumping:  :jumping:

 sputtering at criuse is typical when the vacuum advance is overadvancing the timing , generally I set total timing at 36-38* with no vacuum advance & leave the vacuum unhooked

adjusting them this way sems to improve the milage as well
