Help!! Key won't go into ignition

The FSM often refers to tools only the dealers ever had.

I got the slack in the wires I needed and now have the switch out of the way. I don't see any pin in the shaft. This pic shows where I am at. I may have to get smaller bolts to get my puller to pull off this plate. I see the manual has a funky looking puller . The shaft at the bottom has a rubber like ring around it .

I have to use a puller like in fig 8 in your manual to get to the next step. (take shaft pin out...etc) Interesting this key point was left out of my electronic version of the manual. See my pic. Where did you get your manual from? Mine has been little help to me so far. (including other projects)

From YO.  Try the method I explained.  I did NOT take that next piece off to change the cylinder.  Wiggle that collar and use a stiff pick to depress the tab.

assuming yoiu have removed the snap ring above the brg the collar should wiggle up

I am going to try and wriggle it free tomorrow just like you said. Then I gotta see if I have something to press the tab. (yeah I got that snap ring out) thanks again

Well I got the bottom column piece off with some very strong jerks it became loose and I was able to lift it off the shaft. Now I gotta see if I can get at the tab to release the switch and slide it out.

yaahhhhoooo got the new switch in. Thanks everyone for the help. I wouldn't have been able to do it without your help. Especially 72 challenger those manual prints and tips were invaluable. Now I gotta just put it all back,,,aacckk  (not that bad) .

Nice when it works out huh.

Kind of scary when you got it all apart and you know you can't drive it until You fix it.

While I had the wheel off I cleaned the thing.  An old tooth brush and a bucket of warm soapy water, the thing looks brand new.

I took advantage too. I painted and cleaned up the column. She started right up today. (I was sweating I admit) Before and after pics......

Little late to the thread.  But this really helped me out.  I had gotten a piece of the key stuck in the ignition lock and couldn't get it out.

Appreciate all the advice that was given.  I did find that having a piece of the key stuck in there resulted in a lever being kicked out of the tumbler, preventing removal.  So using a dental pick, I was able to snap that back up in place.
