Which rear leaf springs to get?
« on: September 13, 2007 - 01:43:41 PM »
I've read many of the previous posts on this subject and I'm a little confused of what to ask for at the spring shop.  I want the Cuda to sit high enough in the back that the wheel well lip is slightly above the 275/60/15's.  This about the height I get with the air shocks at max. pressure.  The air shocks will be tossed once I get the new springs.  I've read that the SS springs do/don't???  raise the rear ride height so I'm not sure these are what I need.  I'm not looking for a harsher ride.

big block super stock springs (I think the 3600lb part number) would have the arch you are looking for, this is a 28 inch tall tire (275/60R15) with the S/S springs and no lowering blocks. So you would probably want the arch (the spring place should be able to determine the arch height) but a lower spring rate than the S/S spring since they are pretty stiff.

Check out Espo springsnthings.com

I would suggest going for a spring with a 2" over stock height.

I think your mixing this up with the XHD springs, which are stock ride height. The SS springs will raise the ride height somewhat to a lot. They also have a much higher spring rate, which equals stiffer ride. If you want the stock ride "feel" and additional hieght, then MEK is right, check out Espo and get one of the +1 or +2 configurations.

I don't know what springs NIKKI has as they were there when I got her. But I will tell you 8 leaf on the LT and 9 on the RT. The 275's fit nice and she don't ride like a lumber wagon.

I would go with the Espo 2" over stock height. My car was saggin pretty bad so I went with new 1" over springs with some good shocks and they are not that expensive for the difference it made.

Your ride height looks pretty good with the 1" over stock.

Looks good "1 over :2thumbs: , any higher would look silly I think.

Calvert split mono's hands down the best spring out there........

SS springs will sit at least 2" higher no matter which ones you purchase. The E-body won't like it because as they launch, the shackles will hit the rear valance.

With the split mono's, they are way lighter than any other spring out there, they can be ordered for raising or lowering, and you can get the rear half made short for the E-body, which is what they need, but its your car.

I think I'll go with the stock spring + 2".  I'll check the prices locally first as there is a couple of spring shops in town.  Shipping from the US on something this heavy will be expensive.

I have 275/60/15 on the rear. I took my stock springs measure where I wanted them with 1/2 tank of gas and spare tire jack etc. and had them re-arced by a local spring shop, I think I added a middle spring to them. Got the height I wanted and rides pretty good with gas shocks. The back body height is 27 3/4" from the wheel lip down. The front sits at 26 1/2" lip down with 225/70/15 tires on the front..
