mirror base install.....
« on: September 13, 2007 - 10:25:46 PM »
I have a set of chrome mirrors adn need to install a new set of bases on them. Does anyone know how to dismantle the mirrors? Do I have to break the actual mirror or will it come off without breaking it? I have to wait for my new bases but I will be doing this in the next couple of weeks.

The screw that holds the base to mirror body is in the inside of the base so it is accessible.  If your driver side mirror is a remote, you'll have to undo the cables (carefully) to get the base off.

On the passenger side I was able to tilt the mirror far enough to get a Phillips head screwdriver in at an angle to remove & then reinstall the mirror. This may work on the driver side but I have not needed to try.  The mirror is mounted on solid metal so breaking it would accomplish nothing.

removing the cables for the remote without distroying the die cast part is very difficult
