HEY GUYS IM SURE YOU GUYS CAN HELP ME OUT HERE , WHAT ARE THE CORRECT T/A NUMBERS ON THE HEADS, AS THERE ARE A FEW SETS OF SUPPOSED ORIG HEADS FOR SALE AT THE MOMENT, I NEED A PAIR AND DONMT WANT TO BUY THE WRONG ONES , I WOULD BE A COSTLY MISTAKE, WHATS THE AVERAGE COST FOR A REBUILDABLRE PAIR? THANKS

I just found another cast #: 3462598 (this shoud be the right one, I think)

I am not a TA/AAR specialist, so if someone else please....

This can get confusing, so bear with me, I will try and wrap it all up in the end...

The correct casting number for the T/A heads is 3418915 as stated.

BUT the casting number is also correct for some 340-4 bbl applications, and some 360 applications clear into 1972.

The 3418915 head letters may be a j, U, O, or Z.

The T/A head were s the same casting as the others, they were just machined differently.

So, the ONLY way to truly know if they are T/A heads is to look for the offset pushrod holes for the intake valves.

I do not remember where this came from and it is blurry, but it is the only illustration I have of the pushrod holes.

I'm not an expert on parts by any stretch, but I think all the T/As I have owned thru the years had the "J" heads

SO SOME OF THE HEADS ON EBAY COULD BE JUST STD TYPE 340 HEADS WITH THE SAME CASTING NUMBERS THEN?

I have not looked at any on Ebay, but if they do not show any photos that include the offset intake holes - avoid them.

Or ask them to add photos.

THANKS BARRY MUCHLY , THERE ARE A FEW SETS THE OWNERS ARE CLAIMING TO BE T/A HEADS BUT NOT REALLY GOOD PICS ONLY GOOD PICS OF CASTING NUMBERS ETC I WILL HAVE TO BE MORE VIGILANT NOW THANKS ALL YOU PROB SAVED ME THOUSANDS DOLLARS.

LOL , by the time i buy them , ship them , pay the gst tax(10%) import duties etc then the aussie dollar conversion yes it does get expensive particularly if you buy the wrong part.

nah, I got a 68 340 with some X heads but it is a complete engine. Er, if I say I like the new pic better I will get labled a naughty boy but I likey lol
