Exhaust Options

Well, now I'm stuck. 
Got the challenger running finally and it sounds awesome with the open headers! :droolingbounce:
But I need to get some volume control on the thing before I actually move it out of the driveway. 

There are a couple of things that I am considering and I want to know if any of them are REALLY bad ideas.  I want an easy install, preferably bolt on, more than anything else right now.

1) Weldtech 2.5" side-exit exhaust system
2) Purple Hornies.  Bolt them right up to the headers and done!  But do they really control the volume at all?
3) TTI 2.5" x or h pipe system.  I'll have to have someone install this for me, which means towing and labor charges
4) Pypes 2.5" X Pipe system, cheap but same as above I expect.

I have a TTI 3" exhaust system on my Cuda and I love it, so I'd recommend the TTI 2.5" system. 

How come you have to have someone install it?  I installed my exhaust system all by my self, it was straight forward and pretty easy.

Are you sure TTI has a 2.5" system for the E-body?  I thought they only had a 3" system.   :dunno:

Your probably thinking Flowmaster, they only have a 3" system for the E-body.  TTI has both 2.5" and 3".

Unless you want to be loud as hell dont get the 3" flowmaster dual exhaust setup. I love the sound but I think it will get annoying after a while. I will most likely swap out the mufflers at some point for some spintechs, I have heard good things about them.

Yeah the TTI has a 2.5" H and X crossover exhaust system but I thought that it needed some cutting and welding??

Also, is it generally true that X crossovers prohibit transmission access more than H systems?

I don't have a welder and I need something short term just to move the car around, which is kind of why the purple hornies were attractive,  I can just bolt them up to the headers and have some noise reduction.

Has anyone used weldtech's side exit exhaust system? that looks like the setup I want to end up with...

I've got the TTI X pipe system on my 340.  It is bolt on but if you have the TTI headers.  It wasn't that easy to install though as they had to send me special collector adaptors.  It's a good system but the joints do need to be welded eventually.  There is nothing wrong with bolting mufflers right to your headers to get around.

 I just have the stock HP manifolds on my 440 but I went with the TTI 2 1/2 system. it looks, fits and sounds perfect. I highly reccomend their stuff.

I can't speak for the X pipe system but for the H pipe system I was able to put it together with out any welding, as a matter of fact the TTI manual says they don't encourage welding (at least in the H-pipe documentation).  I have TTI headers and Flowmaster mufflers so I had to buy adapters for the mufflers because they are shorter then the mufflers TTI supplies.  I did have to do some cutting on the adapters to shorten them so they would fit (without adapters not enough pipe, with adapters too much pipe, go figure) anyway, I used a sawzall with a hacksaw style blade and it cut it fine with no problems.  For the H-pipe system you should be able to install it and have it clamped together so you can take it to a shop to weld it up if you choose.

What about the system that Summit sells for like 200 bucks?  I've been looking at it waiting for someone to post pictures of an install.

I was looking at the summit system as well, but there's no crossover, unless you cut and weld it in yourself.  I'm pretty determined that my final exhaust setup will have a crossover, the TTI website says that their X crossover makes up to 15 more horsepower than the H type.

Has anyone tried the weldtech setup?

I recently installed the 2.5" Summit/Jegs exhaust on my car.  It is actually made by Dynomax.  It fits pretty well, but my driver side needed about a 6" extension pipe added to the intermediate pipe.  I am running ceramic coated Dynomax headers, which the system is designed for. It doesnt hang too low and it seems to be solidly supported too.  I was surprised by the sound, it is quite a bit louder than I thought it would be.
