Sounds like a smart idea. I just hate to see people sell off their cars for something. I know a house is important but most never get over selling their pride and joy.

not sure what carboard box house subdivision you live at, but $30k is surely not enough to buy a decent house in US

I was referring to down payment money.  20K down buys more than cardboard especially in a place like Stockton, California.

60 minutes just did a show last night about the slumping housing market and referred Stockton, CA. as ground zero on what the housing market trend is. Their opinion was the dropping prices aren't over yet and it'll get lower still. They mentioned TX, OH. as other places hit hard by the trend. Auctions can't turn over the houses fast enough from the repo's. If you can wait a little while longer, you might get more for your car and spend less for the house. Good luck on whatever direction you take.

Topcat, i noticed they mentioned Ohio. I live in Dayton Ohio. Our paper lists the repos weekly. At the top of the ad there is a paragraph stating that ohio leads the nation in repos, and that dayton leads ohio. The last time i counted, there were 11 pages of listings. Lol, soon my car will be worth more than my house.
