Brake Master Cylinder Mods? Swap?
« on: September 17, 2007 - 10:16:45 AM »
Hello all. Another quick (maybe) question for you guys (and gals).

I have 4-wheel drum brakes with a power master cylinder.
I'm putting in wilwood disc brakes on the fronts. Do i need to change anything? Add anything? Proportioning valve?

Any help is always appreciated.
Drive it like you stole it.

I did the swap from a 73 satellite, but i had to change the master cylinder and the proportioning valve. i have seen with the wilwood ones that the factory wheels will not fit with the center cap and the whells had to be machined or something to fit that center through.

you need to change the master to get rid of the residual pressure valve it will cause the fron t brakes to drag
a different propotioning valve is needed to balance the front to rear brakes , or just install an adjustable valve in the rear brake line

OK, just to be clear, I change out the master cylinder AND get a proportioning valve to adjust rear pressure?

What MC should I use? Which did you use with you wilwoods?

Yes change both , you could use a prop valve off a newer car with disc / drum brkes
a later master from a mid 70s disc /drum car will bolt on

i didnt use the wilwoods but i used the MC from a 73 challenger. the proportioning valve that i use is from a 73 satellite with front disc and rear drums. expensive but you can get the same prop valve from YO part number PB369. someone may offer it cheaper though.
