Engine paint question ....the best???

Hi Guys,

So I'm about to paint my newly re-built 340.  I'm looking for suggestions on a brand or specific type of paint to use  .  Of course I'm going with the original blue, but I want to make sure I use something that won't peel off in 12 months!

Any help is much appreciated..

The folks reassembling my 440 will be using POR-15. They have used it in the past with good results. Here are some pics of a recently done 67 440

When using POR-15, did you guys brush it on or spray it?

I am not sure what is the best, but I have been using the 500 degree Mopar engine paint in the spray can with good results.

But then again, my car is not for show.

It's a brush on, just DON'T get it on your hands.  You'll be wearing it for days. It takes 2 coats to do the job right. Put the second coat on a day after the first, then give it 4 days to cure. They have a prep kit to degrease and get the block ready too. Here is a pic of mine. I have changed intake manifolds since, but it will give you an idea. This is my version of Mopar turquoise.

It still burns the second time I look at it.

I don't want to hijack 72fish's thread, but it is probably worth re-visting the question about 'correct' colors, both turquoise and orange.

I know that the POR-15 kit doesn't give you a choice.  But has anyone found and particular paint codes (from PPG, Sikkens, Dupont...) that is a good approximation of the original colors? 

For that matter, how close is the color of the POR-15?  (That post by 71bigblock looks pretty close to the Street Hemi Orange).

  I only went the POR-15 direction because April did. Yes, I didn't care to look original(as you might have noticed  ) Her Hemi-orange engine looks dead on to me.

I'm with Mike, its real close.  The picture makes it look a lot lighter than it really is.

I always use the Mopar rattle can paint and if the metal is prepped right it will stick and last. I painted the engine in my 72 challenger in 2002 and it still looks great. My brother on the other hand rushed prepping the block and his engine paint pealed. SO it is all in the prep work. I am very happy with how well it has held up for me. Oh and I primered the engine first.
