Tom,

I only went the POR-15 direction because April did. Yes, I didn't care to look original(as you might have noticed  :grinyes: ) Her Hemi-orange engine looks dead on to me.  :2thumbs:

  Mike

So that's not the original turquoise?   ;D
Understood, Mike, and yours does look awesome!  And I appreciate the feedback on the POR-15.

I know this topic went on for a while over at moparts, as several people weighed in about matching the looks of both the turquoise and Street Hemi Orange.  I welcome any experience and comments from folks here about application and color matching.

Thanks again,
-Tom

Use Metal clean or similar type cleaner to clean block prior to primering or paint.

I was told that spray the block after it is clean shiney and bare cast with etching primer.

This sounds like it would make sense since etch primer grabs well onto bare metal.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the input.  This definitely is not an easy decision.  I'll let you know how it turns out.  BTW, I've posted some pics of my 72 resto project and my borther's (72cudaguy) on our website: www.twocudas.com.  Both are coming along nicely.  Target date for completion on both cars is 4/1/08.

Thanks again!

I think the por-15 is a close enough approximation of street hemi orange and unless I powder coat the block that is probably what I will do
1971 Challenger (OO==== ====OO) getting close!
1970 Challenger (OO########OO) long ways off

72fish: That is a nice website.  I hope you've gotten the advice you need from this thread, and that I didn't take it off-topic.

For those of you who have used the POR-15 engine paint...How well does it go on, when brush-painting?
I have used the regular POR-15 and their top coats on my suspension parts, and I hate it.  The POR-15 is like painting with milk, and their top coats are like painting with glue.  The end result is a brush-stroked globby mess with a lot of paint runs, even when following their directions to the letter.
Does the POR-15 engine paint spread similar to the other POR top-coats?

Finally, has anyone tried painting with the POR-15 kit, and then applying a flat clear over it?  Most of the POR products just look very shiny.

Thanks again,
-Tom

I brushed it on, and unless the engine is out of the car, I dont think anyone would be able to tell.  It levels really nicely.  Sure in some places it is a little more obvious, but at least you dont have to get a gun, tape everything, etc.  It is kind of thick, but that eliminates any runs while brushing.  I really liked it.   :2thumbs:

Hey HooD,

Sorry about the 'link difficulties' -not sure what was goin on there  :clueless:   I just went out there and everything seems to be working ok today.  I'll be posting more pics tonight.  Things are really coming along.  Both motors (blocks and heads) are finished being machined and are ready for reassembly -I should have pics in the next couple of weeks.
