Anyone have pics of Chally elasto bumpers without the blackout?
« on: September 19, 2007 - 03:54:57 PM »
Kind of hard to make the topic title lol. I am very interested in elastomeric bumpers but I dont want to make an R/T clone of my car and dont want the blackout tails and grille. Has anyone seen pics of a Challenger with elastomeric bumpers that dont have the top portion blacked out? I know they do not hug the fenders like the 'Cuda bumpers and dont know if the look would be right. I really dont think the bumpers would look right with the grille argent on the top part of the bumpers, what do you guys think? Dont get me wrong, I love 71 R/T Challengers but I just do no want my car to be a "clone", I want it to be fairly true in its original paint scheme with a few nice additions like sport hood and hood pins but am trying to stay away from being pegged another wannabe. I think it would look awesome all dressed up with window louvers, wing, elastomeric bumpers, etc.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you want the elasto bumpers, but the grill not blackened, or the top of the bumper not blackened? I have only seen the elasto bumpers in black or body color.

In any case, this will cost you $$$ to find those bumpers. Not sure if they are re-popped yet. I really don't think black bumpers would look bad against a argent grill and tail panel, if that is your plan.   :2cents:

Yeah they are not cheap. I can get them from sixpack performance as a front only or front/rear package for 1700. I have been thinking on it and really dont see how I could install them without the blackout portion and have them look correct. I dont know if I can express my feelings, I know my car will not be from the factory correct and that I am adding some options it never had I just dont want to build an R/T wannabe. Does that make sense?
Here is a pic of the front rubber bumper they offer.

I was just thinking if I was not going to do it right I might as well save a boatload of money and get fiberglass bumpers. I wouldn't look too odd because they do not hug the body like 'Cuda elasto bumpers do.

Yeah its easy to spot fake 'Cuda elastomeric bumpers because of their body hugging design, I think the Challenger would be easier to "fake" so to speak but I would rather have the real deal. Any possibility of a non R/T with the blackout grille and tails?

I really like the look. I know that only R/T black grilles got elastomeric bumpers but man I would love to have a set. I have not bought any yet and at about 800 for a pair I am tempted to wait until I have 1600 to plop down on a set of elastomeric bumpers. At least they used to be that price, how much did you pay for yours?

:iagree: they are sweet  :cooldancing: I paid $1500  :faint: for the set but better than painting stock chrom ones. imo

you could get a non rt in 71 with elastomeric late in the year.  I do not know what the grill color was

If you get a set of elastomeric bumpers, get them from Gene Gregory in Alhambra, Illinois.  He owns and operates Alhambra Services and his work is spot on.  Even better, he uses steel chrome bumpers to do the conversion.  The prevents us all from having to buy a new set of bumper brackets to fit the original elastomeric bumpers.

Go with Gene.  He is at the nationals every year and also has the bumpers on E-Bay quite often.  He will also give you a discount if you give him your bumpers to do the elastomeric conversion with.

Genes E-Bay user name is "newreproparts".  If you can give him a good core, he will deduct 100.00 for each core.  This puts a front and rear seat at $1450.00.

I am not aware of anyone else doing this.  I have an idea that other people are selling these after buying them from Gene.  I know I have seen quite abit of this up at the Nationals.  You can always tell Gene's work though.

He also makes aluminum louvers as original for our Cudas and Challengers.  They are spot on and ready to install.
