Clear or tinted?
« on: September 20, 2007 - 12:36:28 PM »
I ordered new rear and side glass and I have to tell them whether I want clear or tinted by tomorrow.  What looks better? The existing glass doesn't seem to have an obvious tint to it.

Matt,
Where did you order the glass from? Most of the people that sell glass for our cars have the orginal "green" glass tint as opposed to modern tint. If your car is an AC car the tint will make a difference on heat control.

I just ordered a full set from PSAUTO... I ordered the green tint. I was on the fence for a while too. I remember seeing both types up close and the tinted looked nicer... plus I am putting A/C in the car.

This would be a good topic for some pics!!

I don't need AC up here (unfortunately).  Most of the time the side windows are down.  So the PS glass had a nice light tint?  How did it fit? Thanks.

I'd be interested to see how one of these cars look with 35% all round black tint. I like the looks on any other car but had a feeling that on these cars it would like to "modified" and stand out like a sore thumb and I like my cars to hide what they have that's new. Still keen to see if someone does it......

I'm not a fan of the dark tints either.

FYI..I found another place called Auto City Classics (www.autocityclassic.com) that does Challenger glass and they actually have a dark smoked tint in addition to the clear and green tint. I thought about it for a minute but then thought it would look awkward.

Back in the day, a old friend of mine had a 73 Cuda with semi dark tent. I did not care for it at all. I dont know what it was, it just did not look right IMO. I cant find any pics, i think they died with my old computer :dunno: I seen it before and after, and i think it made the car look worse. I love the stock look, just not stock handling, and braking.

Hey Carl, have you ever seen 18in rims, that look like factory steel rims/hudcabs?

Yup, I think I know the ones, there OK as for as modern go but just look like over proportioned rallye rims. If factory rallye rims didn't exists the wheel would probably look OK, but, all it reminds me of is a weird factory wheel.

Not to go off topic for the original poster but are these the rims you're referring too?

Ended up ordering clear glass.  I think new glass all around will make a big difference in how the car looks. :smokin:

I found some info on the Moparts site which helped confirm the lack of tinting. Apparently the M8.7 code means clear. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=2984019
