Hey guys,
Okay, now that you all got me searching on craigslist, I found this RV 727 transmission for sale for $50!!
I'm been speaking with the seller, who said that I'll have to replace the output shaft and the tail housing on this unit for it to fit in my 'Cuda. (Apparently he too has or had a 73 'Cuda so he knows what's involved.)
I have the skills and most of the tools I need to rebuild a transmission, which I plan on doing for whatever I end up buying, just so that I know exactly what I have and the quality of the parts. Can anyone back-up the need to replace those components, and give general ideas on what it would cost for the parts (since labor isn't an issue for me) and where I can GET those components from?
Also, are the components of this tranny going to be heavier-duty than a standard 727? I'm still aiming (albeit quietly) for a 500hp output from the motor I eventually build - will this be able to handle it?
I'm basically trying to decide whether to go over and pick this thing up. For the price it can't really be beat - question is am I just going to end up getting rid of it later because it's too expensive to convert, or still can't handle what I'm looking to do with it.
The seller is holding it until I respond in the next day. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Jeff
