Fuel Gauge
« on: September 26, 2007 - 04:03:46 PM »
I'm having a problem with my Fuel Level gauge that I just installed in my car.  I just filled up the car and it reads full, but as I drive down the road and make turns (even slight turns) the needle bobs around from full all the way down to 1/2, then back up.....but the needle almost never stays still while driving.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's an Auto Meter,  Pro Comp, Ultra Lite II 2 & 5/8.  Here's the summit description of what I bought:

I'm wondering if this is "normal" just from the gas sloshing around and the float moving with the gas?  :clueless:

Sounds like it may be a grounding problem at the tank. Did you replace the ground strap on the tank?

What Dave was saying is, there is a ground strap from the solid fuel line to the nozzle of the sending unit that needs a good connection.

I have NO experience with the aftermarket gauges, but the stock fuel gauge will move some. Not anything like what you are saying though. I just wonder if the float on your sending unit is big enough, or what.  :screwy: Is this a Mopar sending unit and float?

Perfectly normal. Mine does the same, its 'accurate' with the fuel level. Not the best thing, but how it is with atleast autometers.

(and yes there should be some kind of wire, or steel wire with two clamps on the end that tie the fuel sender (usually the hose fitting) to the fuel line, chassis ground, etc.)

Kinda funny, everytime i nail the throttle, the tank goes to E...go figure.  :pullinghair:
