tti headers for 383
« on: September 26, 2007 - 06:01:29 PM »
I'm thinking of getting tti headers for my 'cuda with a 383. Engine has something like 350-400 hp.
Should I get the 1-3/4" or 1-7/8" headers? I'm going to run 2-1/2" x-pipe exhaust system.

I'll vote 1-3/4". Life will be easier with installation, and you aren't running a big horsepower engine, so that's my vote.

That's true. Installing them will be easier. But if I upgrade to 500 hp will I need the 1-7/8" then?
I have stock 906 heads

I want to say "yes". The next question is, can you get 500HP out of stock 906 heads. I think maybe not.  :dunno:

Example: A stock "906" head flows 126 cfm at 0.500" lift. The potential HP is 126 * 3.44 = 433 HP

I would get the 1 7/8 headers. They will do just fine on a stock engine and if you ever upgrade the mill you can still use them with great results.

So 1 7/8" will not be to large for the stock heads?

As far as I have every heard the gain over exhaust manifolds is so great that you would not really notice the difference between 1 3/4 and 1 7/8.

Talk to TTi & see what they recommend , I tend ot agree , either will be a gain , if you paln to do more with the engine I would look at the bigger tubes otherwise the 1 3/4 will give better low & mid range power generally

I have headers from Hedman now. But they are hitting the mini starter and are to many dents and bends in them. And they heat up the engine compartment a lot. So I was thinking of headers that are ceramic coated w/ thermal barrier. I'l ask tti and see what they recommend.
