Feels like no power to the wheels

Ok my Dad rebuilt my 383 and 727. He also put a what I believe is a low stall torque converter I don't know what though. He doesn't seem to know either which is a little irritating. The 727 also got a shift kit. I also put bigger wheels and tires on the car. The rearend is 2.76. When I drive the car it seems like it can  barely move. Even if I step on the petal a little more there is no change. The engine sounds like it wants to move but the wheels don't.  I am wondering if the problem is in the converter, valve body, or the gears.

Yikes, my 318 even ran okay..slow, but no issues with 2.76s and 28" tall tires. Are you sure your shift linkage is right? May be inbetween gears. Don't run it long that way something may be cooked, or cooking.

I'm just curious what size carb you have on there. It might be starving for more fuel and air?

same problem before replacing the trans? Are the bands adjusted correctly?

When I got the car it didn't run so I don't know but I do know they are new.

I have an eddie 750. The engine sounds fine though and the car does shift it just seems very slow. My charger had a 318 and seemed to accelerate better.

Oh yeah, i had a "pro" rebuild my 727. I slid it in the day i was "driving" to OC cruisin. last bolt tight, ahhhh thats it... alright lets see what this puppy will do.... nothing... i put it up on jack stands and the wheels would barely get rolling.

needless to say i had yanked and installed 2 trans in one day. problem solved.

from the did you check the obvious dept...could your rear brakes be too tight, emergency brake on?

ok, so it isn't as fast as you thought it would be. What size tires did you put on the back. 2.76's aren't horrible but maybe you are running a really tall tire??

Not the brake. tires are 27 in.

Did you put the engine and trans in the car or did someone else do it?  On GM automatics, when you put the converter on the trans you have to turn it by hand until it "seats" onto the front pump shaft.  I have never dealt with chrylser automatics but I assume that it could be possible that your converter may not be seated correctly on the pump.

My Dad installed it and he's a transmission mechanic. He thinks it may be either the torque converter or the valve body. The torque converter was custom from a local shop and the shift kit has you drill a hole in part of the valve body. My Dad says he is gonna talk to the converter guy tomorrow. Worse comes to worse I'll have my Dad send me another converter and tranny. The only trouble is I'm in CA and hes in CO.

I just wanted to ask if you broke-in the trans before you drove it. To break it in, you would put the rear wheels off the ground, start the car and run the trans through the gears to make sure everything gets trans fluid. Without this step, it might behave strangely.

If you feel it shift through all three gears ,it is probably the converter. (bad and stalling too much)
