MOpar Guruus is this possible??Gran coupe
« on: September 28, 2007 - 10:25:37 AM »
I was just looking at this nice Gran coupe. His Galen decode says its an E63 335hp 383.I thought the GC was only available with the 330 Horse engine.Mine says E63 also but Galen said its a 330 horse. How would he know if he has never seen the cars if they have the same E63????Seems to me the 335 Horse would be a different engine code if its different???

Could it be exhaust-related?  I.e. the Gran Coupe had a single exhaust for 330 HP vs. a dual exhaust 335 HP in a 'cuda?

E63 is either the 330HP or 335HP version in models years 69 and 70. It's the 4bbl version of the 383. 2bbls are rated 290HP (E61). It's just a marketing ploy to call 335HP and the other 330HP. The 330HP versions were painted blue (torquoise), the 335 versions were painted orange. Same engine.

If you got A/C, you got the 330HP version supposedly.

In 71 model year, E63 became the 400 2 bbl.

Mike

In the VIN:

"N" Code 383 = 4 barrel, dual exhaust.
"L" Code 383 = 2 barrel, single exhaust

Difference between the 330 and 335 horse engine was the cam and windage tray.

400 ci engine did not exist until '72.

 :iagree:
The 335hp 383 also had the HP stamp on the boss, the 330hp didnt. The exhaust isnt an issue since all 4 barrel 383's were dual,as in my decode. You would have thought that Ma mopar would give a diff vin code for each, but she didnt. Not that 5hp really makes a diff.but the cam(slighly as in 5hp) and the factory windage tray was nice. The HP for the 383 in 71 dropped to 300hp and compression to 8.5-1.

That contradicts what ChallengerGary said above.
