Any tips on how to install this without marking the paint, and is there a easy way to get it all level to the adjacent surfaces or does it go where ever it goes once you snap it onto the retainer clips? ........thx

Run some masking tape/paper around the edge, to cover the paint. It has been years, but i am sure my trim just popped right in with no problem. It either snaps in snug, or does not snap. I had brand new clips around my windows though.
