Not trying to hyjack the post but I had to mention this after reading what has been posted here. I was standing in DMV waiting for my turn in line when i overhear a conversation take place to my left at one of the DMV desks. Two guys were talking to a DMV agent. Make that one guy cause the other didn't speak a lick of English. The guy that didn't speak English was trying to renew his license. When asked for his SS # he lied about something I couldn't hear what his reply was. So she replies that he caught him lying and he now had to take all four tests over again to regain his license. The English speaking guy tried to step in and fix the issue. The agent then replies to him very clearly that his friend lied about his SS # and now was having his license revoked. He could now start all over again and re-apply for his license starting with the written exam. Have a nice day! They walked away completely shot down. This agent wasn't playing around. Now I ask you all. Was this right or wrong? After all we all have to abide by the laws, and this one got caught making light of them. DMV giveth and DVM taketh away!

IMO, she did the right thing.  Why should ANYONE be treated differently just because you don't speak the language of the country you are in.  If I went and lived some where were thier language is not my native language I would learn to speak thier language.

Because the receptionist answered in Spanish, he refuses to go there anymore?  Seems silly.  I work for a bank, and we have an English line and a Spanish line, and mistakes happen, and English calls get routed through the Spanish line, and vica versa. 

FYI, a major part of my job is fraud investigation, including SSN# fraud, and unless you dig deep, you'll never even know they are using a bogus social when you verify it because for the most part, they use the same social for EVERYTHING... it almost becomes their legitimate social.  Also, believe it or not, far more non-hispanics use fake/multiple socials.

Yeah I understand what you are saying but we are talking about hundreds of thousands of people leaching off our tax dollars. They get private rooms and when the kid pops out, it is automatically a U.S. citizen. I am all for LEGAL immigration and I can even abide the illegals that come over to do jobs that are financially impossible for U.S. citizens to even consider but we have enough deadbeat americans living off welfare, we dont need people coming in from other countries just to do the same thing. And no I dont consider myself racist, I would not think it right if I went to Mexico or Canada and tried to spongue off their governments either.

No, I am not a racist.  It was an automated answering system at Menards that answered when I called, I didn't even get the chance to press 2 for English.  If someone wants to come to this country and become a legal citizen the legal way, then more power to them.  There is a lady at my church who had come to the U.S. illegally.  She had lived in the States for many years when the system finally caught up to her.  She was offered a deal to stay in the states and become a citizen for what basically amounted to a bribe.  She said no.  She left her husband (natural American) and kids to go back to Guadamala to go through the system legally.  It took a little more than a year, but it was worth it to them.  I comend her and hold her as a gleaming example of whats right.  Yes, I am boycotting Menards for catering to a group of people that SEEM to refuse to do the right thing.  I am also boycotting Burger King because I could not get a drink carrier at the drive through window because the lady that handed me my food and drinks did not understand what I was saying by asking for a drink carrier!  I am also pissed that the Vietnamese family that lives down the street will not speak english to their son.  "Oh, he'll learn english when he goes to school" was the reply when I asked why.  Goody, one more kid slowing down an already overstrecthed school system.  If I moved to Mexico for a job, I would learn as much as I could (language, customs) so I could fit in better.  Same thing goes if I were to move to Canada.  I would not expect everyone around me to adapt to me.  When did it become shameful to be a citizen of the United States of America?

I also agree with your statement 100% My beef is not with people who cannot speak english, it is with the people who refuse to even try to learn english which would ease integration to our culture. The U.S. and its citizens should not have to sthingy feed these people because they will not put forth any effort at all.

 I do business with BOA. I don't agree with their policy, but I enjoy banking there. We live close to the Mexican border (30miles). I have freinds that are Border Patrol Agents. I always hear about drug smugglers, people smugglers, kidnappings, gang clashes, rape , murder, Border Agents getting shot at, non-Mexican illegals. It is pretty much a wide open border until they close it with some type of barrier, and we are not going to see that in our lifetime. I saw pics in the paper of the "fence" that is going up, it looks like the one in my backyard. We are fighting a loosing battle and I don't think any politicians are willing to do anything about it. Just take a look at the candidates for President, pretty hopeless. I really don't care what BOA does. We have more serious problems down here. I read about things in the local paper that you never here on the national news. Shootings, kidnappings, Mexican Police being murdered. Did you know that it is the Feds policy, if a Mexican National gets caught with a backpack full of dope, they just take the weed and give him a free ride back to the border , so he can do it again? It happens every day and night. Talk about a messed up system with nobody stepping up to fix it.

I am always reading threads like this on this site, and it shocks me. This place is known for being a good, well moderated forum. Never any personal attacks on members, nothing like that. But then I see threads like this. It truly is like night and day. Its like instead of making personal attacks on members, you decide to make generalizations about an group of people. Honestly, its quite obvious that when half you guys are just substituting the word 'mexican' for 'illegal' when you post in these threads.

You know Andrew, in a sense I agree with you.  The problem is that you don't get to experience first hand, everyday, like most of us here in the States do.  I feel like my country is being invaded and slowly taken away everyday, and nobody will do anything about it.  There are people here (in the U.S.) that seem to feel that we (the U.S.) have done something wrong to rest of the world, and now we need to bend over backwards to make everyone happy.  There are plenty of groups that are causing the problem, illegal or not.  I feel that changes need to start at the top and work there way down.  The world has changed, too bad the leaders of this coountry have not figured it out yet.

Hey Andrew, I don't recall seeing a single person metioning that they disliked a group of people just for the sake of their nationality or color or race. That would be racist. The posts have been about the one's coming over here ILLEGALLY. Not because of WHO they are but because of HOW they got here. I came from Italy many years ago. But I did it LEGALLY. My family made a strong effort to learn the language and customs of this country. That is the point of this post. Frustration in the effects ILLEGAL immigration is having on our economy and such.

I live by the border so naturally my post is mostly directed at Mexican Nationals coming here illegally. Why am I a racist for disliking the fact that approximately 60% of my tax dollars, which is in the 10's of thousands, is going to feed, house, clothe and provide medical care to people with no legal right to it? I am not attacking people here, just a system that rewards people for breaking the law, it sucks and after watching it happen for YEARS, I am sick of it.  /rant.

I still don't get where race comes into it.  I live in the US, the language here is english.  There is no need for the answering system to be in any other language.  When I visit another country, I expect to use their language.  I said visit, passport and all, not sneak in and stay.

That said, I fired my bank because they had spanish on their ATMs and yes, I'd have done the same for german, japanese, french or anything else.  Call me what you like, but if you're a citizen of the US, speak english, if you're visiting, get a translating dictionary ( I have many )  If you're not visiting, turn yourself in.
