Just another 318 Challenger
« on: September 30, 2007 - 01:35:53 PM »
I said I'd start a new thread when I decided what car I was going to do this winter,so here it is. It's going to be the 70 Challenger.
This one is going to take alot longer than the Cuda.
Here is some back ground it is a 318 auto burnt orange/burnt orange interior.
The body is very rust free with just a small hole in the front floor and some small holes in the center of the trunk.
I haven't decided on the engine yet but the paint will be a pearl orange and burnt orange interior. Probably four speed.
I'm going to hold off the 71 convertable untill the new firewalls are available and since that may be a while this car go's to the front.
I posted some pictures in another section for some engine comp shots that are good detail shots as the engine comp is original paint.
It has a near perfect no crumple zone hood so maybe a shaker? I have been collecting some parts, so far a Harms hood kit perfect bumpers rechromed and a new dash pad.

That's an awesome starting point!  There is next to nothing for rust repair.  It'll be cool to watch this car come together as was the 'Cuda.

I plan on preparing to strip my car down when I park it for the winter. I really liked the posts  you did with the cuda--gave me some good tips and pointers as I have never done any body work before. Post lots of pic with this project also. Look foward to following along.

I agree, there is a huge amount of freedom imo with a base car. Unless it is a loaded(rare) base car you can do pretty much what you want to without guilt. I still have the numbers matching engine but I doubt very seriously if my car ever has a 318/904 in it again.

Hi everyone
I spent a little time removing trim this week. I can't get over how clean this car is! I have spent alot of time working on these type cars and one thing I know for sure is this car did'nt spend much time in PA. Everything I have removed so far I have yet had to fight a bolt or screw removing it.
Anyway I'm so glad it didn't sell when I had it listed!
As of now the color combo is the only thing I have worked out so far, and how knows that may change too.
I'll post pictures as I go along like on the Cuda.

Yup, from the look of it you got an arid region car. It is in better shape even than my 71 which spent its whole life in west Texas and southeastern New Mexico. I had no problem taking the tie downs off my car and they get all kinds of weather to them right there by the rear wheels. Floor pans and trunk pan look nice too. What are your plans? Stock rebuild or are you going to make it what you want?

The body should go fairly fast but if I go Hemi/5 speed money is going to slow it down a lot!

The pictures so far don't do it justice, unless I find some hidden suprises when I remove the one repaint this one will be around a while.
I REALLY want to go Hemi.
I want the car to have good power but still handle.
I really like the build NZ is doing on his but that maybe out of my range.

I'm leaning to a PPG Radiance orange with Burnt orange interior right now. But I have sprayed it before and it is VERY hard to spray doing the underside ,engine comp and outer body. It is tri coat based and very hard to spray large areas.
I have SE chrome and NOS wheel moldings. I think the more chrome the better with this color. It should just pop in the sun.
