cany ou give us a little more info on the shaker conversion kit? maybe some tips, where you cut the frame work, etc? this is looking awesome, are those your Bbodies in the background too?? luckEEEEE!

 

 

I got this kit from Harms, they have a great reputation for quality parts. This kit is no exception. I didn't get the instruction CD with since I got before they were sending the instructions.
The magazine article and talking with Scott was very helpful. The CD should answer any mounting/cutting questions you have.
I chose to not strip the paint so I could see if I was causing any damage as I was cutting and welding. The hood I have if very rust free so clean up later won't be a problem.
One of the things that they stress in the article is the the measurement to center the hole. after talking to Scott this may very since you have to center the ring mounting holes over the under hood bracing. A factory one is 22 1/2 mine ended up 22 3/4.
I am using this one on what most would call a clone car so I didn't spend the time to make the welds look factory perfect as far as location and weld type. Very small dot welds.
I miged mine on though they don't recommend it with careful welding it can be done. Leading is probably not necessary but that is how I'm going to do it.
The new complete hoods look good but after using a repop deck lid on my Cuda I'm a little afraid of them.
The ring needs a little work as the mounting studs appear to be bolt threaded threw and then the heads were ground off so that needs a little filler to make smooth.
The stamping looks good around the flange ring. You will have to bend the flange  on the under brace some to be sure there is NO gap, if you leave a gap when it is tightened the hood will bend down to it causing a lot of filler work.
No I wish those were mine but they are customers cars.

thanks for the heads up, i appreciate any info. so, would you consider doing this knowing you had to also find a flat hood? i will need to find a correct flat hood and then buy the kit. i dont mind doing the work, but will it be cost effective? im not going for concourse numbers matching. the hoods are about $995 right now i think. kit is $600?

no need to  , im just curious. some time next year i may be springing for this set-up

The kit prices have come down a lot since I bought mine. Depending on finding a good hood and it's cost and if you can do it your self it may be cheaper.
I haven't seen any feed back on the fit of the complete hood , but if it is not as flimsy as the deck lid I had to rework  it may be the way to go.
I already had a good hood and bought my kit when the price was still high so I was stuck with it.
Check with Harms I believe the kit is now in the $450.00 range.

Yeah me too, but I painted my neighbors 70 Roadrunner that color and don't really want to have two car with in a mile the same color. I may do it any way though.

Oh I'll lose the pace very soon the shell will go a lot slower.

Just customers cars one is a 69 A-12 Runner(on the rotissory) the other 69 Charger Daytona.

I think the lighter color has more pop to it too but I wouldn't want to dillute the area with cars the same color either.

Here are a few pictures of the hood finish work. The lead work went good with no warpage. I got real lucky I only had two full sticks left to do it and streched it out to the end.
Next will be put it in epoxy and fill the ring, small pock marks and a couple of dents.
That little guy stayed too long in the hood!
Found him when I was blowing out the dust,  I hate it when I jump like a little girl
He came out right across my hand.
