Shaker Hood Pictures

I know people have been requesting pictures of the under side of the new shaker hood. Here are some I took of one at a show this past week end.

That looks pretty nice, is the shaker opening insert cast or ???

I'm sure purists will find things they don't like about it, but it's pretty cool that the shaker option is available to everyone...
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

i seen it up close & personal. I like it.

I will get one for a back up.. prob just to have. Everyone selling those kits were raping people until they found out that a repop was coming out.l. know all of a sudden, their prices drop.. gee, whadda surprise.

If you car is an N96.. then I could see holding out for a real one from a purist perspective. However, whether you're cloning a 74 chally or a 71 cuda.. the shaker hood doesn't matter as long as it looks and fits straght. $950 for a shaker hood / trim ring.. is a great deal. Wait another year, they'll be 500-750, you watch. Market is getting dilluted.

As I've stated from the beginning after seeing these hoods, they are a nice piece, just what the Dr. ordered for SOME people.

I agree, and that's why there is still a market for what we sell. I won't comment further, the pics tell the story, those that know what originals look like will see the differences themselves.

Making a derogatory comment like that just shows just how much you don't know.

deragatory comment?? c'mon

If there's any truth to what I said it's not derogatory. You make nice pieces. Those hoods are nice. Prices are down because of economics and demand is just about saturated. it's economics. Purists want "real" shakers.. not like quality.. it's all or nothing. I simply said everyone else who wants the shaker look.. would getting all around value for those done already.

About monopolizing the prices.. that's not directed at you. But, let's just say, competition is a good thing. You sell the quality / value piece and the done shakers will push the simplicity / price piece. Fair enough?

Specifically directed at me or not, as far as I know our company is a member of  the "everyone" you mentioned? Saying we have "raped" people is plenty derogatory in my book.

Concerning the economics of manufacturing Shakers (or other parts) you can't possibly comment from a point of knowledge unless you've actually manufactured them yourself. Pure speculation, you simply don't know what you are talking about.

Just so there are no misunderstandings, the reason our price dropped was simply to meet a competitive situation, obviously we couldn't continue to sell kits for $750.00 when a complete hood is only $250.00 more. Pretty simple. That being said our margins are now so low that when the current inventory is gone, we are done with them. No sense in selling something if it's no longer profitable. Think this is a good thing? Well think about this, we STILL sell the most accurate Shaker Hood  parts on the market. When ours are gone you will no longer have a choice, you'll HAVE to buy the complete hoods (which lack as much OE accuracey) and then THEY will have a market monopoly and I'm sure will happily RAISE thier prices to all.

Competition is good, it's even healthy, but elimination of a good source? Chew on that.

:wow:  :woo:

Looks like a good quality hood from the photos, very nice indeed. If it's 100% correct or not I have no idea, as long as the quality is good that's all that matters to me. I do agree with 71fish that if I had a N96 tag car that was #s matching I'd definitely go looking for an original or NOS hood. If there are any "non-correct" areas, not many will spot it once painted (if at all) and if they can it will be so minute it would be laughable.

Once again, nice piece. I know I'm glad to have one coming and for the car I'm building (correctness/smerectness) it's ideal, again, as long as the quality and fit is good that's all I want and we all know original hoods aren't the bees knees either (some are shocking) so I feel these hoods will equal if not better the original hoods fitment. Though, having said that we all know hoods, panels, tire fitments etc, etc all vary with these cars.

Looks real good!  :2thumbs:

Spot welds look nothing like original, but I guess those can be filled some to look more original.

Still on the fence as I have a perfect '71 flat hood w/the proper crumple zones, unlike these Taiwan repops.

I would like to see the Challenger underside of the repops to make sure they didn't use Cuda underhood braces (like Snobar's).

Also not sure if I want to put a crumple-zone '71-style repop on my '70.   Especially since I also have two superb '70 flat hoods.

Hmmm...

71fish, I don't think Scott et al. were trying to "rape" anyone.  Research, development, tooling is hella expensive.  Why do you think Adobe Photoshop is >$1,000?  $600 for Microsoft office?  You paying that much for the CD material itself?

W/o them, a lot of folks would have nil and we can thank them for stepping up to provide parts.  They actually helped to show AMD, Goodmark that there truly is a market for these hoods.

I'm very close to someone whom has their own tool making business. He actually EDM's the molds for injection molding and stamp dies etc. I won't get into a pssing match on the board. I respect both sides.

However, Harms is wrong thinking when his pieces are done that the repop metal shakers will go up. He's completely wrong in that respect. only time will prove that one however. I also would not compare expensing of tooling of a shaker brace & trim ring to that of software upgrades. We may as well compare that to clinical trials of pharmaceuticals.

I'm off this thread. I will have to be more "pleasing" with my comments. I really hope this board stays away from political correctness.

My cuda does not care about feeling..  lol

I apologize to Harms. Inc. Subject is dropped in my book.

Hey Scott check your mail, I'm gonna get two kits from you before you stop makin' them.  Gotta do something w/my flat hoods ('70 Chally, '71 B'Cuda, each of which AMD does not make w/the right crumple zones).
