Looking for the name of somthing on an ebody.
« on: October 05, 2007 - 01:12:52 PM »
What are the rails called that go from the top of the cowl to the radiator mount? The inner fenders come up to them on the inside, and the fenders sit on them. Are they part of the inner fenders, or are they seperate structural parts?

I think they're part of the inner fenders  :dunno:

I guess that's what's confusing me. I have a set of replacement inner fenders (repop) but they just have sharp edges, not the rails. What do you do if you need to replace the rails?

Wow, I would think that the rails would come with the inner fenders. They rot just like everything else  :clueless:

I'm thinking that since these inner fenders are repops, they are made so that you just cut out most of the old ones, then weld in the new ones without touching the rails, kind of like patch panels. Has anyone bought inner fenders that have the rails?

Typically the rails are rusted so inner fenders w/o them would be pointless??

At first I thought that is waht he was asking about, but I think he means the flange along the top of the inner fender that the fender attaches to.

Yes. I'm calling them rails, but its the area that the fenders bolt to. So , I should throw away these pieces of crap that I have, and get real inner fenders. Who makes the best ones?

Goodmark. I did a comparison between YearOne type inner fenders and the Goodmark version.

Here it is.....

I think if they sent you something billed as a repop inner fender well and it had the inner top flange cut off I would get my money back. I might understand the clip-on nuts maybe not included but thats about it.  :clueless:

Those inner panels are called fender shields.  The are stamped out in one piece and should include the upper "rails" that the fenders bolt to. Sounds like you got some that were cut up  :dunno:

Here is a pretty good article on replacing them.
