Having followed NASCAR since I was a kid in the '70s, as well as any other motor sport that I could have access to, I am discouraged with the series as it has evolved. Some of the changes were necessary for safety or economics I suppose but for the most part the changes detract from my perspective. A few of the tracks may be more competitive today than in the past but for the most part, and especially the super speedway races, have become follow the leader wreck fests. On the other hand because of the popularity of NASCAR we have more TV coverage of this & a lot of other motor-sport.
As for the other series out there F1 is not as entertaining as it used to be, you can almost predict the finish before race weekend & for sure after the 1st corner of the 1st lap....OMG how is this considered a motor-sport, more of a engineering competition. Nothing even resembling stock in to relate to, at least not in my world.
Then there is the US open wheel shows..Indy...F&%# Danika, I don't tune in to keep up with her but 3/4 of the commentary seems to be focused on the little 0-win witch....CART....more wreck fests & what's up with this passing button?!?!?. Who is Paul Tracy gonna wreck this weekend....are they even racing this weekend? Coverage of this series is sparse so it must be dying. Nothin stock here.
NHRA....they don't turn right.....or left .. or at least they shouldn't.. I'm OK with that..good show if your guy doesn't blow up. Are more than 1/2 the runs actually competitive? Nothing stock about John Forces "Mustang"
Best show I see when they have a race is the American Le Mans Series, but their best drivers jump to the higher profile/paying series 1st chance. Some of their classes are "production based"
Dirt track open wheel is where its at IMO, short races, lotta power, no Intimidator types can survive as racing clean is what its all about.
Swamp Buggy Racing is what NZ needs to get into...stock?...maybe not, but they do turn right...LOL...
Ya know every time someone starts b1tching about NASCAR one complaint is that they don't run "STOCK" cars....None of the other series do either so what's the big deal and if the did what could they run(think about it)? Yea in the 70s & 80s it was more interesting but I think that is mostly perspective & the personalities involved but for the most part some of you just want to go against the recent success & popularity they are enjoying....
tell me I'm wrong.....Toyota...just have another reason to hate Toney Stewart next year.
So I'm gonn keep watchin, remembering the old days & pulling for the lead Dodge, or rooting agianst dem bad ole chebby/tayota,drivin a-holes...
