They are the mopar brand and they are green.

I thought the green bearings were the ones that were sealed bearings to replace your typical cone and race style outer wheel bearings in your rear end axle housing? benefits was no preload adjusting required, downside was they do not handle side loads as well. if you were a drag racer they were great, if you were a road racer stick to the stock bearings.
Am I wrong?

In my limited knowledge of the subject, I agree with you. Green bearings aren't something someone doing everyday driving on the streets wants.

Green bearings are sealed ball bearings, hey used to have a green seal on them, hence the name. Original equipment bearings are roller bearings. Ball bearings have a contact patch of bearing to race of just the point of where the ball touches the race, while the roller has a much larger contact patch on it's race, therefore much better able to handle side forces. Ball bearings are fime if you just have a cruiser or weekend playtoy. Everyday drivers that get mileage or road racers should use OEM rollers.

last months issues of mopar muscle (or was it mopar action?) did a good write up on the difference between the tapered bearings and the green bearings.  it would be a good read for you, check it out.

Yes they did and it was a great article, convinced me to stay with the stock set-up.  The article involved more than jus tthe bearing, it had to do with a custom axle shaft and fitting it.

Basically what they said. But, the Green stykle bearings are more than most guys will ever need. GM's use the same style (ball rollers) and they take a ton of abuse. I have two G machine cars over 4000lbs that run road coarses, and the Greens are fine tehre too. The factory tapered bearings will never, ever wear out if properly maintained. Greens have a shorter life span. But, I've changed more stock bearings due to poor maintenance than I've ever replaced Greens for any wear of failure. I will say on my own car, they did fail..the seals dried out whilt it sat for a few years (more like 10+) adn the ebarings made noise. Having a better design that needs maintenance is sometimes not worth it, because nobody does the maintenance...lol.

Factory GM+FORD vehicales used roller bearings for years and millions of miles...............Ive never had a problem with green bearings, and Ive used them for years..........kim........
