Rooster's 70 Challenger Fender Tag
« on: October 11, 2007 - 03:29:23 PM »
 was hoping you guys could help me decipher my fender tag....I don't have a picture but I do have the report I copied from the http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php website.

Only 5 lines of code, the first starts between the mounting screws (i.e. top line is blank):

  Y05  26  EN1
M21  N41  N42  N85  R11  V68
EF8  A33  A62  C55  G34  J54
EF8 H6XP 000  202   CXXXXX
E86 D21   XXX XXX  XXXXXX

Code Description
E86 - 440-4 Barrel High Preformance
D21 - Heavy Duty 4-Speed Manual Transmission
JS23 - J = Dodge Challenger
  S = Special
  23 = 2 Door Hardtop
U0B
  U = 440 375HP 1-4BBL 8 CYL
  0 = 1970
  B = Dodge Main, Hamtramck, MI, USA
XXXXX - Sequence Number 'XXXXXX'
EF8 - Paint Code: Dark Green Metallic
H6X9 - Trim Grade/Style/Color
  H = High
  6 = Vinyl Bucket Seats
  X9 = Black
000 - Upper Door Frame: Full Door Panel
202 - Date Built: 2 / 02 / 1970
CXXXXX - Order Number: CXXXXX
EF8 - Roof Type OR Color:  Dark Green Metallic
A33 - 3.54:1 Dana 60 Track Package
A62 - Rallye Instrument Cluster
C55 - Bucket Seats
G34 - Left Hand Outside Mirror - Manual / Painted / Raci
J54 - Sport Hood 70-1
M21 - Roof Drip Rail Moldings
N41 - Duel Exhaust w/o Tips
N42 - Chrome Duel Exhaust Tips
N85 - Tachometer
R11 - Music Master Radio AM
V68 - Delete Stripes
Y05 - Built to U.S. Specifactations
26   - 26 in. Radiator
EN1 - End of Codes Assembly Line 1

Maybe this speaks volumes to you guys, but this seems to leave out some of the details I hope to know....it may sound stupid but I was hoping this would also tell me things such as if I had a center counsel, flip gas cap, hood pins, bubblebee stripe, spoiler, etc.

Also why does it say dual exhaust w/o tips, but then say chrome tips?  Also what does the "order number' mean? (I wasn't sure if I should hide that one, so I errored on the side of caution)

I hate sounding like such a noob, but I appreciate any explaination of these codes or additional information you guys might know.

Sounds like a Green challenger R/T 440 4spd with no stripes, I'm pretty sure the bumble bee stripe would have been on the fender tag, the hood pins and console would also have been stated if the car came with them. Other then that, i'm not sure. I know i'd sure love to have that car  :droolingbounce:

Thanks!.....and thanks!

Kind of a bummer bout the bumblebee stripe, spoiler and hood pins....those were the things I was hoping I could add on during the restoration.  Now I am wondering why I currently have a bumble stripe and why hood has hoodpin holes that have been filed in.............to my knowledge the car has been repainted but previous owner said they kept it the original colors, maybe he lied.....he was rumored to be the biggest drug dealer in town :dunno:

i dont think that the console would be stated on the fender tag, mine isnt, but it looks like there are no stripes, i think that all of them that get chrome tips had the N41 then N42 codes. also not sure if the spoiler or the gas cap would show on there, dont think that they do. you would need the build sheet to tell you more informatoin. the order number is just the number that they put on when the car was ordered i think.  not an expert on this topic, just stating what i see   :feedback:

The fender tag is a body tag...it identifies what options are on the car that require body mods. So yes, the console does show on the tag, as the brackets to mount it had to be welded on the floor pan. Some cars had the dual exhaust with out the tips, so thats why they are seperate. dual exhaust requires mounting brackets on the body, as do the tips, thats why they are shown on the fender tag. Hood pins will show on the tag, a body mod is required. Wheel selection will not, as an example.

the C that starts the order number indicates a canadian order   E would be export

N41 - Duel Exhaust w/o Tips

 should read;

N41 - Dual Exhaust System

Most online decoders are not model or model year specific, so do not take them as gospel.

Sorry I did not include 'V68' on my stripe code list on the other thread, your car is 'V68' stripe delete so no stripes whatsoever.

Rooster,

Looks like a very nice Challenger R/T you have there.  The address is from Alaskan_TA's web site.  It has a lot of useful information.
